El Papa Francisco ha convocado al Sínodo de Obispos en octubre de 2023. El Santo Padre ha pedido la consulta mundial sobre el tema “Por una Iglesia Sinodal: Comu- nión, Participación y Misión”.
Cada iglesia particular, es decir, todas las diócesis del mundo se unirán completamente para cumplir la petición del Santo Padre para participar en el proceso de prepara- ción para el Sínodo de Obispos.
La primera fase del Sínodo de los Obispos comenzará a nivel local con una Misa de apertura que celebrará cada Obispo diocesano en su Catedral el 17 de octubre de 2021. Los procesos de escuchar y aportar se llevarán a cabo hasta finales de enero de 2022. Después, a princi- pios de febrero, el Obispo local debe presentar a la con- ferencia episcopal nacional la respuesta de su respectiva diócesis a las preguntas del Sínodo. En este país, la Con- ferencia de Obispos Católicos de los Estados Unidos de- ben preparar una síntesis de todas las respuestas dioce- sanas y presentarlas al Secretario General del Sínodo de Obispos antes de abril de 2022.
Según el documento preparatorio de este proceso, la pre- gunta fundamental que guiará esta consulta es:
“En una Iglesia sinodal, que anuncia el Evangelio, todos
“caminan juntos”: ¿cómo se realiza hoy este “caminar juntos” en la propia Iglesia particular? ¿Qué pasos nos invita a dar el Espíritu para crecer en nuestro “caminar juntos”?
Aquí en la Diócesis de Rockford, abriré este proceso en la Catedral de San Pedro el domingo 17 de octubre de 2021, en mi horario habitual de Misa, a las 7:30 a.m. La Misa también se transmitirá en vivo en las páginas de Facebook diocesanas. October 12, 2021 Dear Brothers in Christ,
Pope Francis has convoked a Synod of Bishops to be held in October of 2023. The Holy Father has asked for the world’s consultation on the topic, “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission.”
Each particular church, meaning all dioceses throughout the world, will join in fulfilling the request of the Holy Father to engage in the process of preparation for the Synod of Bishops.
The first phase of the Synod of Bishops will commence at a local level with an opening Mass celebrated by each diocesan bishop in his Cathedral on Oct. 17, 2021.
The listening and input processes will then take place until the end of January 2022. Then, at the beginning of February, the local bishop is to submit to his national bishop’s conference the response from their respective diocese to the Synod’s questions. In this country, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops must then prepare a synthesis of all the diocesan responses and submit this to the General Secretary for the Synod of Bishops before April 2022.
According to the preparatory document for this process, the fundamental question that will guide this consulta- tion is:
“A synodal Church, in announcing the Gospel, ‘journeys together:’ How is this ‘journeying together’ happening today in your particular Church? What steps does the Spirit invite us to take in order to grow in our ‘journeying together’?”
Here in the Rockford Diocese, I will open this process at the Cathedral of St. Peter at my regularly scheduled 7:30 a.m. Mass, Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021. The Mass will also be streamed live on the Diocese of Rockford Face- book page. As we prepare to take part in the Synodal process, I prayerfully invite all the lay faithful, consecrat- ed religious men and women and clergy to pray that God open our hearts and our prayers to His guidance so we can better understand how we can serve Him and the church in this process.
More information on how diocesan Catholics will partici- pate in this process will be communicated to the parishes through their individual communication platforms, through The Observer and El Observador Catholic news- papers, through the diocesan website and on the Dio- cese of Rockford Facebook page.

from 4:30-6:30 PM at Luigi's Pizza and Fun Center Prairie Ave on Aurora's West Side
You have a choice of Spaghetti Dinner with meatballs or chicken breast. You can pick up your meals in front of Luigi's and take your meal as "carryout" or, we encourage you to come inside to eat in the dining area, and make use of the Arcade Center, or the Laser Tag Room. Drinks are purchased separately at the counter. Parish Fellow- ship has been sorely missed this past year and a half.
We need each other.
The cost is $10! Proceeds will be used to support Knight's Charities and St JP II Academy Scholarship Fund for children of parishioners needing tuition assis- tance.
Tickets will be available after all Masses October 23/24.
“Leaf Raking Assistance”
Date: Saturday, November 13 th, 2021 Time: 9 am
Meeting place: St. Francis Center
We will rake leaves for OLGC senior citizens and other Parishioners in need because they are unable to do it themselves or need assistance because of age or disability. There is no charge for this service. Property owners are requested to provide leaf bags in communities that require them.
Because of COVID -19 safety precautions, leaf rakers will wear disposable gloves. Mask wearing outside is optional, but a requirement any time we are indoors. Extra dispos- able masks and gloves will be provided as needed.
We are looking for volunteers to rake leaves, especially students in need of documented community service hours. Please bring your own rake.
The Knights of Columbus will host a Bratwurst fest for volunteer workers and parents at St. Francis Hall approxi- mately 12 noon after leaf raking.

St. Vincent de Paul Society
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus asks Bartimaeus: “What do you want me to do for you?” And he answers, “Master, I want to see.” Let us ask Jesus for the grace to “see” our brothers and sisters who are poor and lonely.
In September, thanks to the OLGC parish community and our faithful contributors, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to bring God’s love and mercy to five families, providing $1,586.51, for utility, rent and furniture bills.

RECOGNIZING JESUS
The star of today’s Gospel is a panhandler. Bartimaeus is blind, yes, but he is probably also homeless and filthy, a real nuisance to respectable citizens. Even so, it is Bartimaeus who recognizes Jesus as the Messiah, places all his faith in him, throws aside everything he has (his cloak), begs him for mercy, receives new vision, and follows Jesus on the way to suffering and death in Jeru- salem. How desperate will we have to get before we can do the same?

El actor estelar del Evangelio de hoy es un mendigo.
Bartimeo es ciego, sí, pero es probable que también fuera alguien sin hogar y estuviera sucio, una verdadera molestia para los ciudadanos respetables. Aún así, Bartimeo es quien reconoce a Jesús como el Mesías, pone toda su fe en él, deja a un lado todo lo que tenía (su capa), le ruega que tenga compasión de él, recibe una nueva visión, y sigue a Jesús en el camino del sufrimiento y muerte en Jerusalén. ¿Qué desesperados tenemos que estar antes de que podamos hacer lo mismo? ~Copyright © J.
