Dear Families:
Man is a pilgrim. He is always traveling. Even when
appearances give him the feeling that he is at rest, he never breathes the same air. Once, a young lady approached a wise old woman, as she lay dying, and asked: “Please, tell me what the answer is.” The old woman replied: “I'm not sure I know the ques on.”
Today's Gospel tells of a lawyer who seemed to know all the answers, but who was asking the wrong ques on. Jesus tells him to keep the simplest and most important commandment,
"LOVE GOD AND NEIGHBOR". The difficult part is not learning the laws but prac cing them. Jesus’ uniqueness does not lie in the answer he gave the lawyer, but in the conclusion: "Go do likewise".
Jesus changes the ques ons of our lives. He did not tell the lawyer anything new, just to comply with the Commandment:
"To love God and to love thy neighbor."
Chris anity, which stems from the gospel, acknowledges only one form of rela onship with God - love. Who is my neighbor?
The important thing is to feel close to one another; so close that we love our neighbor as we love ourselves.
This parable of the Good Samaritan reminds us that love of God, whom we do not see, must be realized in the neighbor, whom we do see. Two common errors we make in this pursuit are: to fail to love ourselves, thus leaving us with no point of reference for loving others; and never finding anyone to love.
Jesus was par al to the poor and needy. In fact, the fulfillment of Jewish law, for Christ, rests in love of God and neighbor. If we say we love God, we are bound to love our neighbor.
Mother Teresa provides us with an enlightening manifesta on of this truth. Her inten onal associa on with the poor, ea ng, sleeping, and praying with them, tells us that she found Christ in the poor.
In a world so spiritually poor and yet so unaware of its poverty, we might want to pay more a en on to the homeless and poor in our ci es. Christ lives in the eyes of the poor. If we seek spiritual food, best thing we can do is to feed the poor and help them find acceptable ways to meet their material needs. When we give to the poor, we, ourselves, receive God's blessing.

Queridas familias:
El hombre es un peregrino; camina siempre, aunque las apariencias le den la sensación de reposo; jamás respira el mismo aire. Se cuenta la historia de una anciana muy sabia, que cuando estaba para morir, una joven se acercó y le preguntó: Por favor dígame cual es la respuesta, la anciana respondió: no estoy segura de saber la pregunta.
Hoy el Evangelio nos habla de un abogado que parecía saber todas las respuestas, pero que hace la pregunta equivocada;
Jesús le dice que siga el mandamiento más sencillo y más importante “AMAR A DIOS Y AL PROJIMO”. Lo di cil no es aprender las leyes, lo di cil es prac carlas; la originalidad de Jesús no está en la respuesta que dio al abogado, sino en la conclusión final: “Anda, haz tú lo mismo”.
Jesús cambia las preguntas de nuestra vida; Jesús no le dijo nada nuevo, sino que cumpliera aquello del amor:
“Que ame a Dios y que ame al prójimo”.
El cris anismo que nace del Evangelio no reconoce otra forma de relación con Dios más que el amor; sólo el amor. ¿Quién es mi prójimo? Lo importante es sen rse próximo del otro, o sea cercano a uno mismo, tan cercano que se le ama como a uno mismo.
Esta parábola del buen samaritano, nos recuerda que el amor a Dios a quien no vemos debe hacerse realidad en el prójimo a quien vemos. Por lo tanto, hay dos maneras de no amar al prójimo: una, la de los que no saben amarse a sí mismos; y la otra, se trata de los que están dispuestos a amar a todo el mundo, pero nunca encuentran a nadie a quien amar.
Jesús tenía debilidad por los pobres y necesitados; de hecho el cumplimiento de la ley judía se apoya para Cristo en el amor al prójimo y a Dios. Si decimos que amamos a Dios, estamos obligados a amar a nuestro prójimo.
La Madre Teresa, por ejemplo, reflejó de un modo especial esta verdad en su vida. Su vida demostró la preferencia por los pobres. Comía con los pobres, dormía con los pobres y oraba con los pobres. Encontró a Cristo en los pobres.
En un mundo tan pobre espiritualmente y sin embargo tan poco consciente de su pobreza, sería bueno prestar más atención a los desamparados y pobres en nuestras
ciudades. Cristo vive en los ojos de los pobres. Si buscamos alimento espiritual, no podemos hacer mejor cosa que alimentar a los pobres en sus necesidades materiales.
Cuando damos a los pobres, nosotros mismos recibimos la bendición de Dios.

Totus Tuus (a La n phrase meaning “totally yours”) is a summer Catholic youth camp program dedicated to sharing the Gospel and promo ng the Catholic faith through evangeliza on, catechesis, Chris an witness and Eucharis c worship. The weeklong Parish summer cateche cal camp program assists parents and parishes in evangelizing and catechizing the youth by complemen ng the work they are already doing at the parish and at home. This summer the program will be offered at eight parishes in the Diocese of Venice. The camp program is for grades 1-5 M-F from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and for grades 6-12 M-Th from 7:30 p.m.to 9:45 p.m. Parishes hos ng the program are as follows:
