Dear Families:
Having received the gi of new life, through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, it is incumbent upon us to use every means to preserve and enhance that gi . This is the main point of this Sunday’s Gospel, and the ones to follow.
Today, the Gospel shows us Martha and Mary, sisters of Lazarus. Martha is jus fied in her cri cism of Mary, who le her sister to do the chores, alone, while she sits at Jesus' feet.
Yet Jesus favors Mary’s a tude over Martha’s. Why?
Martha, a typical housewife, is portrayed as a slave to her work. She does not have enough me for anything else. She is consumed with her du es, which completely fill every available moment of her day. Not really looking up from her toil, Martha has not realized that Jesus, her Lord, and Savior, stands before her. Consequently, she fails to place him above and before all things...even her housework. She has allowed her daily concerns to blind her to the presence of the Lord - the resurrec on and the life - manifest right before her. Martha is an example of what was said last Sunday: that people who do not know how to love themselves cannot take care of themselves and of their happiness.
Mary, on the other hand, demonstrates the correct orienta on to Christ. She has chosen the be er part. Her ac ons light the path that we must be prepared to follow. Mary is the typical example of a person of faith; the disciple, who follows Jesus, without turning aside, placing Him above all things. Mary is not searching in the vast desert of life, she has found the precious treasure - the gi of faith, and she watches over it, placing it before all things. She is transfixed by the beauty in her sight, and she wants only to worship and learn from God. She knows that she will "see" life, as never before, now that God has become manifest in her life, as never before. She realizes that she will now live “LIFE” with capital le ers. How can she be concerned with chores, at a me like this?
The man of faith is perpetually alert; understanding that only with God is there salva on, leading to eternal life and love. In faith, we gain the capacity to achieve the one thing we really need, to enjoy life, whether we have li le or much. That one thing is Love. This is the only life we have to find Love. There is not a second chance. All we must do is reach out, in faith.
If respect were based on the size of our salary, most of us could not hold our heads up, very high, in public. If our dignity were measured by our produc vity, it would be be er for God to replace the human race by a team of robots.

Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 17, 2022
Genesis 18:1-10a; Colossians 1:24-28; Luke 10:38-42 Psalm 15

Pope Francis Prayer Intentions July 2022
We pray for the elderly, who represent the roots and memory of a
people; may their experience and wisdom help young people to look towards the future with hope and
responsibility.
Weekly Reflections
“Lord, bless the world, give health to bodies and comfort hearts. You ask us
not to feel fear. But our faith is weak and we are afraid. But you Lord, do not abandon us at the mercy of the storm. He repeats again: “Do not be
afraid” (Mt 28.5).
And we, together with Peter, “unload all our burden on you, because You
take care of us.”
Intenciones de oración del Papa Francisco
Julio 2022

Message from page 3…
God loves us for who we are - not for what we do. Our awareness of this gi allows us to just let ourselves "be". As we accept the awareness of the presence of God in our lives, on a daily basis, we learn to value the great gi of life, and to appreciate ourselves, as His crea on...just the way we are. As we cul vate this "Godly awareness", we discover a
fascina ng and precious thing - that awareness of God equals love of God, and that love escapes into our lives,
transforming into love of ourselves and love of others. To value our loved ones and to appreciate the simple fact of being with them is also to be in the presence of God. Thus, we fulfill His commandment - to Love Him and to Love one another. That is all that God wants from us.
My blessings and prayers go to you this week.
I will be on vaca on from July 21 to August 23. I do not forget you and I pray for your families. Pray for me.
Much peace in your hearts.
Father Celestino, Pastor
