BAPTISM (in English):
Parents wishing to have their child baptized are asked to make an appointment with the Pastor. Please bring the child’s birth certificate. Baptisms in English are on Saturdays at 11:00 AM.

First Sunday of Lent ‐ February 18, 2018
LENTEN REFLECTION
L
ent is a time of grace in which we journey with Christ through his life, suffering and death on route to his resurrection and glorification. To do this, at Ash Wednesday, the liturgy calls us to a period of repentance and conversion, through in-terior life by practicing true prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Prayer leads us to oneness with God in his Son, Jesus Christ. Fasting enables us to identify with Jesus who fasted for forty days and nights in the desert. Through it, in union with Jesus who emptied himself to enrich us, we can set aside the excess we have to enrich the poor and less privileged through the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. In almsgiving, we can be true servants through whom God dispenses his abundant blessings to all his children.In these forty days of lent, we are invited to a desert or retreat experience with Je-sus to rediscover our identity as a people called to a total sharing of life with God in baptism. In this way, the victory of Jesus will be our victory over Satan, sin and death; our going with Jesus from Galilee to Jerusalem, carrying the Cross with him, sharing in his Passion and death on the Cross, will lead to our sharing in his resurrection and glorification.
This season sets before us the centrality and the necessity of the Cross of Calvary. That is why the holy Church on the second Sunday of Lent, presents before us the glo-ry that awaits us by revealing the foretaste of the future gloglo-ry in the Transfiguration of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. The emphasis is that there will be no glory without the cross; there will be no Easter Sunday without Good Friday.
Part of the way we can journey with Jesus this season is presented to us on the third Sunday of Lent. As a new people of God, we have entered into a covenant with our God. Do we keep our terms of the covenant or not? If not this is a time to make exami-nation of conscience and use the sacrament of reconciliation to make amends and keep God’s commandments and cleanse our souls, making it a suitable dwelling tem-ple for Our God. On the fourth Sunday of lent, through his discourse with Nicodemus, Jesus reveals the special love of God that occasioned his divine mission for the salva-tion of the world. In the fifth Sunday, by raising his friend Lazarus from the dead, Je-sus reveals to us that those who become his friends by accepting him, will experience life because he, himself is the resurrection and life. His friends will share in his resur-rection, life and glorification. Let us bear these in mind as we journey into the holy week.
For this reason, it is imperative that we make spiritual exercises by participating in the daily Masses, the Stations of the Cross, the recitations of the rosary and other par-ish activities. The daily reflections on the word of God is vital to spiritual growth need-ed for Lenten awareness and observance.
REFLEXION CUARESMAL
L
a Cuaresma es un tiempo de gracia en el cual viajamos con Cristo a través de su vida, sufrimiento y muerte en el camino a su resurrección y glorificación. Para hacer esto, en el día Miércoles de Ceniza, la liturgia nos llama a un período de arrepentimiento y conversión, a través de la vida interior practicando la oración verdadera, el ayuno y la limosna. La oración nos lleva a la unidad con Dios en su Hijo, Jesucristo. El ayuno nos permite identificarnos con Jesús que ayunó durante cuarenta días y noches en el desierto. A través de ella, en unión con Jesús que se entregó a sí mismo para enriquecernos,podemos dejar a un lado el exceso que tenemos para enriquecer a los pobres y menos privilegiados a través de las obras de misericordia corporales y espirituales. Al dar limosna, podemos ser verdaderos siervos a través de quienes Dios dispensa sus abundantes bendiciones a todos sus hijos.
En estos cuarenta de Cuaresma, se nos invita a una experiencia de desierto o de retiro con Jesús para redescubrir nuestra identidad como un pueblo llamado a compartir la vida con Dios en el bautismo. De esta manera, la victoria de Jesús será nuestra victoria sobre Satanás, el pecado y la muerte; ir con Jesús de Galilea a Jerusalén, llevar la Cruz con él, compartir su Pasión y muerte en la Cruz, nos llevará a compartir su resurrección y glorificación.
Esta temporada nos presenta la centralidad y la necesidad de la Cruz del Calvario. Es por eso que la Santa Iglesia en el segundo domingo de Cuaresma, nos presenta la gloria que nos espera al revelar el anticipo de la futura gloria en la Transfiguración de Nuestro Señor, Jesucristo. El énfasis es que no habrá gloria sin la cruz; no habrá Domingo de Pascua sin Viernes Santo.
Parte del camino que podemos recorrer con Jesús esta temporada se nos presenta el tercer domingo de Cuaresma. Como pueblo nuevo de Dios, hemos entrado en un pacto con nuestro Dios. ¿Mantenemos nuestros términos del pacto o no? Si no, este es un momento para hacer un examen de conciencia y usar el sacramento de la reconciliación para enmendar y guardar los mandamientos de Dios y limpiar nuestras almas,
convirtiéndolo en un templo apropiado para nuestro Dios. El cuarto domingo Cuaresma, a través de su discurso con Nicodemo, Jesús revela el amor especial de Dios que ocasionó su misión divina para la salvación del mundo. En el quinto domingo, al resucitar a su amigo Lázaro de entre los muertos, Jesús nos revela que aquellos que se vuelven sus amigos al aceptarlo, experimentarán la vida porque él mismo es la resurrección y la vida. Sus amigos compartirán su resurrección, vida y glorificación. Tengamos esto en cuenta mientras viajamos a la semana santa.
Por esta razón, es imperativo que hagamos ejercicios espirituales al participar en las Misas diarias, en el Vía Crucis, en las recitaciones del rosario y en otras actividades parroquiales. Las reflexiones diarias sobre la palabra de Dios son vitales para el crecimiento espiritual necesario para la conciencia cuaresmal y la observancia.
