PASTOR’S CORNER

Happy Easter!

What a gift to gather as the family of God as he shines radiant light from on high, beaming upon us in the risen face of his Son!

Easter is our time of discovering that we belong: we belong to the family of God, and nothing can cast us out, not even sin, not even death. Before Jesus’ bloody combat, before his confrontation of Satan and the storming of his realm, we were under the curse that the serpent had effectively brought upon us. As Satan accused us as outsiders, rejects, condemned, all of his attacks hit to the heart. We truly were orphans in our rejection of God our creator.

Jesus rises today from the dead to refute the accusation of Satan, not just with his word but with his deeds. With his own blood poured out on Calvary, Jesus made us a part of the family. He washed away the sentence of condemnation against us, and allowed us to hear the voice of the Father again.

Easter: the discovery that the word spoken over us is a word of blessing, a word of

adoption. Easter: Jesus cancels the assaults of Satan so they are left as lies and empty

threats. Easter: God the Father floods the world with life in his most beloved Son, a Son who

brings us home.

¡Felices Pascuas!

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP - RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS Leave It in the Tomb

Today, on the most important day of the liturgical year, the Apostle Paul is calling us out.

“I see you hiding in that tomb,” he says. “I see you baking with that old, stale yeast, thinking no one will notice.”

He says it a little more elegantly, I’ll grant you.

But the message is this: If you want to be raised with Christ, you’d better be ready to step out of the shadows. Seek what is above — not what is on earth.

I can feel myself responding almost reflexively,

“Great idea, Paul — but I’m pretty comfy here.” Because sometimes, it’s just easier to stay in the tomb. It’s easier to crouch in the shadows and look outward at everyone else, thinking of the changes they could make or the sins they could overcome.

Today we are called to embrace newness. New hearts, new lives, new futures, new chances. If there’s anything keeping you from that, you need to leave it in the tomb. It’s a little scary, sure — maybe Jesus thought so before he stepped into the light of that first Easter morning. But no loaf of bread worth eating was ever baked using stale yeast that wouldn’t rise.

No new life worth having was ever lived through the broken sins of yesterday. No Easter morning ever dawned without the tomb sitting empty.

Light. He is waiting for you.
