2– December 27, 2020 The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary & Joseph
Happy Christmas season everyone!
On this Sunday we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family. We are reminded that God chose his son Jesus to be born into a family along with Joseph and Mary. As a family they worked together to love and care of each other, within whatever moments God sent their way. In today’s readings, that meant bringing their Child to the temple to offer him to the Lord. This is where they meet Simeon and Anna who prophesy about his future.
As the last Sunday of 2020, perhaps we can hear the Lord’s words as well. We have months and months of unexpected things to offer to God as we close this year. We look with expectation at 2021, wanting to tie all that might happen into the care of Mary and Joseph. They assure us that even the hardest things may make sense when connected to God’s care.
On December 8, 2020, Pope Francis declared the next 12 months dedicated to St. Joseph. As one of the three feast days to St. Joseph during the liturgical year, we ask especially for his quiet and persistent trust in God. We ask for his help to be self- disciplined in looking for the Lord’s care in all the good and the difficult that will come within 2021. With St. Joseph and Mother Mary’s help, all is possible.

En este domingo celebramos la fiesta de la Sagrada Familia. Se
nos recuerda que Dios eligió que su hijo Jesús para que naciera en una familia junto con José y María. Como familia, trabajaron juntos para amarse y cuidarse mutuamente, en cualquier situación que Dios les enviara. En las lecturas de hoy, eso significaba llevar a su hijo al templo para ofrecerlo al Señor. Aquí es donde conocen a Simeón y Anna, quienes profetizan sobre su futuro.
Como último domingo de 2020, quizás también podamos escuchar las palabras del Señor.
Tenemos meses y meses de cosas inesperadas para ofrecerle a Dios al cerrar este año.
Miramos con expectación hacia el 2021, deseando vincular todo lo que pueda suceder al cuidado de María y José. Se nos asegura que incluso las cosas más difíciles pueden tener sentido cuando están conectadas con el cuidado de Dios.
El 8 de diciembre de 2020, el Papa Francisco declaró los próximos 12 meses dedicados a San José. Como uno de los tres días de fiesta de San José durante el año litúrgico, pedimos especialmente por su callada y persistente confianza en Dios. Pedimos su ayuda para ser auto- disciplinados y buscar el cuidado del Señor en todo lo bueno y lo difícil que vendrá en el 2021.
Con la ayuda de San José y nuestra Madre María, todo es posible.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
Begin the New Year by visiting Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament! Eucharistic Adoration will take place on Tuesday, January 5, in the main church from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Eucharistic Adoration is a time for quiet prayer time with Jesus and if you have never attended adoration, January is a good time to begin a new addition to your prayer life. At least one person needs to be present during the entire time of adoration so if you can commit to an hour of prayer
please call Mary Aleckson, 473-6163, to schedule a time. There will be no sign-up sheet. Everyone is invited to come and pray as you schedule allows.

This will be shared between the Whitewater Food Pantry, Bethel House, and the SVDP Hand Up program. A basket will be in the vestibule for you to put in your

The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph
Sunday, December 27, 2020 Gospel Reading:

Mary and Joseph present Jesus at the Temple in accordance with the Law of Moses.
Family Connection:
Today’s celebration of the Feast of the Holy Family highlights the importance of family in our religious life. We know that Mary and Joseph’s faithfulness to God enabled them to cooperate in God’s plan for our salvation by accepting the responsibility to raise God’s Son, Jesus. From his parents, Jesus learned how to be a faithful believer in his Jewish tradition. Simeon’s prophecy about Mary’s sorrow alerts us to the importance of a family’s commitment to one another, a commitment that is expressed in both good times and bad.
Gather as a family and recall times when your family showed its commitment to one another in good times and in bad. Recall times when your immediate family was supported by members of your extended family. Note that today we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family, and we see in the family of Jesus an example for our own family life. Read together today’s Gospel, Luke 2:22-40. Joseph and Mary expressed their faithfulness to God through their observance of the Law of Moses. Simeon prophesied the grief that Mary would experience at the foot of Jesus’ cross. One of the blessings of family life is our commitment to one
another, sharing good times and supporting one another through difficult times. Conclude in prayer together thanking God for the grace expressed in your family’s commitment to another. Write a prayer together, thanking God for your family life and asking God to strengthen your family’s commitment to one another. Pray this prayer together.

Conexión familiar:
La celebración de hoy de la Fiesta de la Sagrada Familia destaca la
importancia de la familia en nuestra vida religiosa. Sabemos que la fidelidad
de María y José a Dios les permitió cooperar en el plan de Dios para nuestra salvación al aceptar la responsabilidad de criar al Hijo de Dios, Jesús. De sus padres, Jesús aprendió a ser un fiel creyente en su tradición Judía. La profecía de Simeón sobre el dolor de María nos alerta sobre la importancia del compromiso de una familia del uno con el otro, un compromiso que se expresa tanto en los buenos como en los malos momentos.
