"Do not be afraid, little flock." Jesus tells us in this Sunday's Gospel. We are pilgrims of the absolute, on the way to eternity. An old Eastern proverb says that this world is only a bridge; you walk over it, but you don't build your final home on it.
Dear friends, if last week's Gospel invited us not to live attached to material things, today's Gospel invites us to live with our eyes fixed on the goal of heaven. "We are pilgrims of the Absolute", affirmed the French philosopher León Bloy. It is not necessary to carry a lot of luggage because the trip would be heavier. To heaven we will take only our good deeds.
Everything around us is provisional. The goods of the earth slip out of our hands, like water that slips through our fingers, without our being able to retain it. What sense does it make to tie ourselves to passing things? Why is it so hard for us to leave what has already happened? The more we become attached to something, the more violently we will suffer separation. One of the risks that constantly threaten man today is that of falling into a superficial, mechanical, routine, overcrowded life, from which it is not easy to escape. Jesus warns us that we must adopt a vigilant and alert attitude to face life.
The Christian must live with an attitude of active and vigilant hope. Watching means not being distracted, not falling asleep, not settling down satisfied with what we have already achieved. It means keeping an eye on "goods from above." To watch is to live awake and in tension. Not with anguish, but with seriousness. Like the student who from the beginning of the course thinks about the final exam. Like the farmer who sows and sees in advance the good harvest. Like the athlete who from the first effort dreams of reaching the finish line first. All our energies must be directed towards the definitive encounter with Christ.
The Christian must look forward to the future heaven, but must also strive to build it here on earth. Life is a drama in two acts. The first unfolds in time and will end soon, the second will last forever in eternity. The first has value only to the extent that it is a function of the second. Life thus becomes a wait full of joy; It is a long road to reach the homeland.
Let us strive to seek "things from above", such as fraternity, solidarity, the will of God, among "things from below" in daily life, at home, on the street, at work, in politics, in culture. As we walk through life, let us keep the lamp of faith lit, since faith is assurance of what is
expected and hope cannot be confused.

“No tengan miedo, pequeño rebaño”. Nos dice Jesus en el Evangelio de este Domingo. Somos peregrinos del absoluto, de camino a la eternidad. Un viejo proverbio oriental dice que este mundo es sólo un puente; pasas por encima, pero no construyes en él tu casa definitiva.
Queridos hermanos, si el Evangelio de la semana pasada nos invitaba a no vivir apegados a las cosas materiales, el de hoy nos invita a vivir con la mirada puesta en la meta del cielo. "Somos peregrinos del Absoluto", afirmaba el filósofo francés León Bloy. No hay que llevar mucho equipaje porque el viaje resultaría más pesado. Al cielo llevaremos sólo nuestras buenas obras.
Todo lo que nos rodea es provisional. Los bienes de la tierra se nos escapan de las manos, como el agua que se escurre entre los dedos, sin que podamos retenerla. ¿Qué sentido tiene atarnos a las cosas pasajeras? ¿Por qué nos cuesta tanto dejar lo que ya ha pasado? Cuanto más nos apegamos a algo, sufriremos con mayor violencia la separación. Uno de los riesgos que amenazan
constantemente al hombre de hoy es el de caer en una vida superficial, mecánica, rutinaria, masificada, de la que no es fácil escapar. Jesús nos advierte que hemos de adoptar una actitud vigilante y despierta para enfrentarnos con la vida.
El cristiano debe vivir con una actitud de esperanza activa y vigilante. Vigilar significa no distraerse, no amodorrarse, no instalarse satisfechos con lo que ya hemos conseguido.
Significa tener la mirada puesta en "los bienes de arriba".
Vigilar es vivir despiertos y en tensión. No con angustia, pero sí con seriedad. Como el estudiante que desde el comienzo del curso piensa en el examen final. Como el labrador que siembra y ve de antemano la buena
cosecha. Como el deportista que desde el primer esfuerzo sueña con llegar primero a la meta. Todas nuestras energías deben estar orientadas hacia el encuentro definitivo con Cristo.
El cristiano debe esperar el cielo futuro, pero también debe esforzarse por construirlo aquí en la tierra. La vida es un drama en dos actos. El primero se desarrolla en el tiempo y terminará pronto, el segundo durará para siempre en la eternidad. El primero tiene valor solamente en la medida en que esté en función del segundo. La vida se convierte así en una espera llena de alegría; es un largo camino para llegar a la patria.
Esforcémonos por buscar "las cosas de arriba", como la fraternidad, la solidaridad, la voluntad de Dios, entre "las cosas de abajo" de la vida diaria, del hogar, de la calle, del trabajo, de la política, de la cultura. Mientras caminamos por la vida mantengamos encendida la lámpara de la fe, ya que la fe es seguridad de lo que se espera y la esperanza no puede ser confundida.
