Mrs. Beall
This is my thirteenth year at Gavilan Peak. Majority of my teaching has been in sixth grade. I have also taught third, fourth, and fifth grade. I earned my Bachelor’s of Elementary Education from NAU and my Masters of Art if Education and Teacher Leadership from University of Education. I have to kids, a 10 year old girl in the Mandarin program and a 2 year old little boy.
I believe that all children can learn, and with your help we, together, can make them life long learners!

Red HOMEWORK Folders
It is important that the students do their homework when assigned as it is reinforcement of skills taught each day; students will be required to know the information on tests and/or quizzes.
They will fill in their agenda each day if there is homework. A parent signature is not required after each day in the agenda. If it becomes an issue with your child not turning in their homework, we will conference with you and begin requiring daily signatures to make sure the assignments are completed. Homework is usually not given over the weekend. However, at some points during the school year, we will have projects or assignments that may require weekend work.
If your child is missing a homework assignment, a
“Missing Assignment” sheet will be brought home for a parent signature.
This slip and the late homework will be due the next day. Some homework assignments may be taken for a grade.

Grading Policy
• Scores will be written on each assignment/test/quiz in the form of points (17/20) and/or percentage (92%)
• A-F Scale: A ~ 90-100% B ~ 80-89%
C ~ 70-79% D ~ 60-69%
F ~ 0-59%
• Grades will come from tests, quizzes, in class activities, participation, and some homework assignments.
• If an “F” is received on a test, you will be contacted and a retake test date will be scheduled. After the retake test is graded, the two grades will be averaged together for the new grade that will be recorded.
• Assignments may not be graded or entered in the grade book on the same day as they are turned in.
Report Cards
Students will receive
academic subject grades as well as a performance level rating.
Subject grades are based on all graded assignments whereas performance
level is based on mastery.
Performance Levels
The Performance Levels indicated by 1-4 are not based on a percentage. It is a performance indicator based on the student’s performance toward grade level standards
• 4 = Demonstrates above grade level proficiency independently
•The student consistently demonstrates above grade level proficiency independently* for this reporting period
• 3 = Demonstrates grade level proficiency independently
•The student consistently demonstrates proficiency for the grade level concepts and skills independently* for this reporting period
• 2 = Demonstrates grade level proficiency with support
•The student usually demonstrates the skill or understands the concepts and meets grade level expectations with support for this reporting period
• 1 = Demonstrates below grade level proficiency with support
•The student performs below grade level with support and is not meeting expectations for this reporting period
*Independently: The ability to demonstrate proficiency of standards without assistance after being taught a concept or skill

Tickets please!
This year students will be given tickets for
positive behavior. When students show that
they are working hard, following directions,
and going over and beyond the expectations
they will receive a ticket. We draw daily for
students to pick out of the treasure box.
If a student needs to be redirected in the classroom because he/she is not making a good choice, a warning will be given to that student or the whole class first. If a second warning is given, their name will be written on the board. If a third warning is given a check mark will be placed next to their name. When he/she receives a third warning, a “Think Sheet” will be sent home for a parent signature.
Detentions can be given from 4th – 8th grade for missing homework or behavior. Detentions are after school from 3:00-4:00 p.m.

Think
Sheet
*All Things EQ*
(Emotional Quotient (EQ) can be thought of as people smarts, or how you think and communicate
with yourself and others.
This week’s motto:
My day depends on me!
COMMUNICATION
• Agenda
• Power Schools – Check Grades
• Parent Conferences
• Please know that we do not always have time during the day to check emails. (We usually don’t get to check them until after school)
• If you need a message to be relayed
to your child, please call the office.
Volunteer Training:
All volunteers in the school must go through a one-time short training before they can volunteer in our classrooms or
attend a field trip as a chaperone.
If needed, please take a list of the volunteer training places, dates, & times that are scheduled throughout the district.
*The two Gavilan Peak training dates are October 15th @ 6:00 p.m., and February 6th @ 6:00 p.m.
During the training you will watch about a 20 min. video and then sign some district paperwork. This training will allow you to be a volunteer every year your child is attending DVUSD.
Volunteer Training:
All volunteers who have completed the training in the past need to fill out a white form and blue form in the front
office near the volunteer sign-in sheet.
This is required for all volunteers on an annual basis. (Please let me know if you cannot get to the office and I will send one home.)
