Dear Families:

Half of the Lenten season has passed, and we are approaching Holy Week and the great feast of Christ's Passover

(Easter). This Sunday highlights an essen al aspect of Lent:

Our conversion. To illustrate this, we use the Gospel reading of the prodigal son, who le his father's house with his share of the inheritance and squandered it all in vices and living a wayward life. When he had spent everything, he found himself without friends, and in dire need. He was le to tend the swine. His soul was full of sadness and sorrow for what he had done; yearning for the good life he lived in the house of his father. He decided to return; apologized; and stated his willingness to work as one of his father’s hired hands.

The father had waited for his son every day, near the road where he had departed. When he caught sight of his son, he embraced him, gree ng him with hugs and kisses. He forgave him and celebrated with a feast, a banquet, joyously

announcing that his son “...was dead, and has come to life again...”.

For the father it was important to have the family reunited, and he made this known to his eldest son, telling him: "Your brother was lost and has been found".

Lent is a special opportunity for God's grace and for conversion. Let us not let it pass by, nor let the me away from the house of God be too long, for He is expec ng us to return, so he can forgive us. We should not be fearful of God to run away from Him, but rather we should approach Him with "holy fear", reverence and filial respect. He is the Father who loves us. He is good, and con nues to wait for us, each day by the road, ready to embrace and forgive us - to lead us to the banquet feast, with Jesus.

God forgives me. Am I not able to forgive those who have offended me? Here we have a path laid out for us: to forgive and to love even those who have wronged us. God has been generous to us in His forgiving, just as we should be generous in our forgiveness of others.

May God bless you

Fr. Celestino Gutiérrez, Pastor

Jos 5:9a, 10-12; 2 Cor 5:17-21; Lk 15:1-3, 11-32 Psalm 34

Cuarto Domingo de Cuaresma

27 de Marzo del 2022

Jos 5:9a, 10-12; 2 Cor 5:17-21; Lc 15:1-3, 11-32 Salmo 34 [33]

Queridas familias:

Saint of the Week

Saint Francis of Paola 1416 - 1507 Feast Day - April 2

Francis was born at Paola, Italy and was educated at the Franciscan friary of San Marco there, and when fi een became a hermit near Paola. In 1436, he and two companions began a community that is considered the founda on of the Minim Friars. He built a monastery where he had led his eremi cal life some fi een years later and set a Rule for his followers emphasizing penance, charity, and humility, and added to the three monas c vows, one of fas ng and abs nence from meat;

he also wrote a rule for ter aries and nuns. He was credited with many miracles and had the gi s of prophesy and insight into men's hearts. The Order was approved by Pope Sixtus IV in 1474 with the name Hermits of St.

Francis of Assisi (changed to Minim Friars in 1492). Francis established founda ons in southern Italy and Sicily, and his fame was such that at the request of dying King Louis XI of France, Pope Sixtus II ordered him to France, as the King felt he could be cured by Francis. He was not, but was so comforted that Louis' son Charles VIII, became Francis' friend and endowed several monasteries for the Minims. Francis spent the rest of his life at the monastery of Plessis, France, which Charles built for him. Francis died there on April 2nd and was canonized in 1519.

When attending Mass, please be mindful…the priest should be the last person to enter the Church… and the first one to leave.

Why do I have to go to the abor on

center? Can’t I pray at home or at church?

You need to pray outside the abor on facility because your prayers there have an immediate impact on an urgent situa on.

Yes, God hears and answers prayers, no ma er where they're said. But when women arriving for abor ons see the public vigil, they know and understand that at the moment they need it most, someone is praying specifically for them.

Your presence there is the last sign of hope before the abor on ... and the first sign of mercy a er the abor on.

Many of the moms who have chosen life ... and even former abor on workers ... say the prayer presence outside turned them away from abor on. They saw that someone was there, just for them.
