Hermanos y hermanas los diez mandamientos que nos fueron dados por Dios, son para evitar distracciones y para que nadie se salga del camino recto y caiga al vacío. En los mandamientos, Dios nos ha dado señales, barandillas o bar- reras para que no caigamos al precipicio. Jesús, resumió to- dos los mandamientos, en un único mandamiento, el amor a Dios y el amor al prójimo. En estos mandamientos se funda- mentan la ley y los profetas (Mt 22,40). Hay una frase de San Agustín muy conocida “ Ama y haz lo que quieras; porque todo lo que hagas será para el bien, tanto si exhorta a alguien o si lo corriges fraternalmente, todo lo aras por el bien del prójimo y no por vanagloria”. Mis is queridos hermanos, los diez mandamientos hay que vivirlos juntos, porque no se puede poner en práctica cinco y los otros cinco ignorarlos. En este Domingo el Señor, nos invita a examinar nuestra vida;

WHY DO WE DO THAT? - CATHOLIC LIFE EXPLAINED
Question: What’s the difference between priests and brothers, friars, etc.?
Answer:
The distinctions titles and categories used for priests and the male members of reli- gious communities can be confusing, espe- cially since the categories can sometimes be intertwined as a man can be both a priest and a monk, or a brother and a friar. So, to help to piece the puzzle together, it’s im- portant to begin by noting some basic dis- tinctions:
The distinction between priests (who are ordained for sacramental ministry) and brothers (who are non-ordained members of religious communities and who are com- mitted to lives of prayer and service).
Priests: A priest is a man who has been or- dained for sacramental ministry and these fall into two categories: A) Diocesan (or Sec- ular) Priests can either be attached to a dio- cese and who serve under a bishop. Their ministry is usually oriented toward pastoral service. B) Religious Priests are members of religious communities (like the Franciscans, Jesuits, Salvatorians, or Carmelites) and their lives are guided by the special mission and charism of their community. While both kinds of priest practice sacramental ministry, their spirituality and how they live out their priesthood can be very different.
Brothers: Brothers are non-ordained mem- bers of religious communities (such as those mentioned above) who live lives committed to prayer and service. Religious priests and brothers serve together in their communi- ties and their ministries include much more than the care of parishes.
Monks, Friars, and Canons: These are broad categories that include religious priests and brothers, and each of these is connected to specific ways of life and spirit- ualities. ©LPi
5 Welcome to St. James the Apostle Catholic Church - Bienvenidos a St. James Iglesia Católica Brothers and sisters, we are advancing in Lent, a time of con-
version, in the love for God, our neighbors and oneself. The next week, we are going to have our Lenten confessions and while we go to confession, I invite you to meditate on the passion of Christ that we will project on our Church screen.
On this Sunday the word of God speaks to us of the purifica- tion of the temple. We see an unusual action of Christ in his ministry. He expels sellers and merchants from the temple with a whip, then He presents himself as the new Temple of God, which will be destroyed and in three days it will be re- built. The first reading also tells us about the Decalogue, the ten commandments of God. In this world many men see the commandments as a straitjacket or heavy loads that God puts in our lives to limit our freedom. I would like to remind you that the commandments do not limit our freedom, but rather that they are a manifestation of God's fatherly love for us.
Brothers and sisters, the Ten Commandments that were given to us by God are to avoid distractions and so that no one strays from the straight path and falls into the void. In the commandments, God has given us signs, railings or barriers so that we do not fall off the cliff. Jesus summed up all the commandments, in a single commandment, love of God and love of the neighbor. The law and the prophets are based on these commandments (Mt 22, 40). There is a well-known phrase of Saint Augustine “Love and do what you want; be- cause everything you do will be for the good, whether you exhort someone or if you correct him fraternally, you will do everything for the good of your neighbor and not for boast- ing ”. My dear brothers and sisters, the Ten Commandments must be lived together, because you cannot put five into practice and to ignore the other five. On this Sunday the Lord invites us to examine our life; to be able to expel bad habits from it; like desiring the wife of another, or coveting the goods of others.
I want to reflect on one of the commandments that is con- stantly being transgressed: You will not take God's name in vain. The term vain means disrespectful, but we see in this time, that many have made blasphemy a habit, all in order to impress. God invites us this Sunday to abandon those habits that make our life superficial and that harm the soul and your domestic Church, which is your family. Let us renew our trust in Him every day; and let us remember that God invites us to renew our trust in Him and to obey Him.
Have a blessed third Sunday of Lent.
Fr. Abraham Guerrero
