2 │October 11, 2020 Twenty Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Hello everyone!
Early into the pandemic Pope Francis wrote a short reflection that really struck home with me.
“Shopping will seem like a party. … Small talk, photos close to each other… will seem like an unexpected and beautiful gift. … Every second will be precious. … We will go back to laughing together.” It will be great to do regular things!
As we start into our parish project, the Holy Spirit Fruit Initiative, our first fruit is joy. When we are close to God, even the most challenging things can have an element of joy. This does not mean all will be happy and funny. No, many things we live through are difficult and sad. And yet, joy means a certain contentment that we are with God where God wants us to be. Things will work out with him.
When choosing an actual fruit for joy, we came to pineapple. Even though it is not an easy fruit to work with, it is colorful and full of life. Goodness grows out of it and when prepared right it adds texture and tanginess to a meal or salad. Our closeness to God can be full of joyful life too, when we look for him.
Today’s Gospel follows in a series of parables from Jesus. He wants us to really look for the gifts God gives us. Amid all the tasks we have to do or need to confront, God the Father, the King, is always inviting us to the banquet of his Son. To slow down and say “Yes”
to this is important. If we do, the joy of our daily encounter with God can transform even the most difficult things into a joyful experience.
Let’s see what we can do to live the fruit of joy today. Fr. Mark

Al comienzo de la pandemia, el Papa Francisco escribió una breve reflexión que realmente me impactó. “Ir de compras
parecerá una fiesta. ... Una pequeña charla, fotos donde estemos juntos... parecerá un regalo inesperado y hermoso. … Cada segundo será precioso. ... Volveremos a reírnos juntos”. ¡Será muy bonito volver a hacer cosas normales!
Al comenzar nuestro proyecto parroquial, la Iniciativa del Fruto del Espíritu Santo, nuestro primer fruto es la alegría. Cuando estamos cerca de Dios, incluso las cosas más desafiantes pueden tener un elemento de alegría. Esto no significa que todas vayan a ser alegres y divertidas. No, muchas cosas que vivimos son difíciles y tristes. Y, sin embargo, la alegría significa un cierto contentamiento de estar con Dios donde Dios quiere que estemos. Las cosas saldrán bien con él.
Al elegir una fruta de verdad para la alegría, acordamos en la piña. Aunque no es una fruta fácil de preparar, es colorida y llena de vida. Algo bueno sale de ella y cuando se prepara correctamente agrega textura y sabor a una comida o ensalada. Nuestra cercanía a Dios también puede estar llena de alegría cuando lo buscamos.
El evangelio de hoy sigue en una serie de parábolas de Jesús. Quiere que busquemos realmente los dones que Dios nos da. En medio de todas las tareas que tenemos que hacer o tenemos que afrontar, Dios Padre, Rey, siempre nos invita al banquete de su Hijo. Pausar un poco y decir "Sí" a esto es importante. Si lo hacemos, la alegría de nuestro encuentro diario con Dios puede transformar incluso las cosas más difíciles en una experiencia llena de alegría.

If you choose not to send your child yet, we have packets of activities and lessons for each grade available that can be done at home. You can register online for the first time this year if you choose! You can register under “Religious Education” on the website. During the month of October, you will have an opportunity to remember your loved ones who have died by writing their names in the Book of the Dead. The book is located on a table next to the baptismal font. The people listed in this book will be remembered with prayers during the month of November.

Isaiah 25:6-10A; Psalm 23:1-3A, 3B-4, 5, 6; Philippians 4:12-14, 19-20; Matthew 22:1-14
Reflection Questions:
i St. Teresa of Avila once said, “Christ has no body now on earth but yours, no hands but yours, no feet but yours.”
In the first reading, Isaiah declares that the Lord will provide. If we are Christ’s hands and feet, if we are truly Christ in the world, what does that mean for us? How are we called to provide for others? How do we look to others to provide for us? In what ways can we express our gratitude?
i The psalmist sings, “Even though I walk in the dark valley / I fear no evil; for you are at my side.” Recall a difficult time in your life. Can you recall a way in which God walked with you during that time? Why is it sometimes difficult to see God in the midst of the “dark valley”?
i Jesus tells the parable of the king who invites guests to his son’s wedding feast, only to have his invitation rejected. What does the parable of the wedding feast tell us about who God is? Who His Son is? How can we respond to God’s constant invitation to the wedding feast in our own lives?

We have limited attendance, so we ask that you register for two Masses in Oct. If a Mass does not fill up, you can register anytime Friday afternoon prior to each weekend on the website.
