In the first reading for this Sunday, Jeremiah says,

“Cursed is he who trusts in human beings, who seeks his strength in flesh, whose heart turns away from the Lord.” Jeremiah was the one true prophet in Jerusalem that lived through the events resulting in the Babylonian Captivity. The king wanted to compromise the power of the Babylonians through military treaties. Jeremiah was told by God to proclaim that man could not solve his own problems. Man needed to trust in God. That is a message we still need to hear. Jeremiah counseled the King that he and all the people should renew their commitment to Yahweh and put their faith in him to deliver them from the Babylonians. That was the way of the faithful Hebrews. Moses, Joshua, Gideon, and all other successful military leaders trusted in God to fight the battle against evil for them. But King Zedekiah, the King Jeremiah spoke to, put his trust in himself and in foreign alliances. This was an outright rejection of God.

More than that, these alliances meant that the people of Judah would have to recognize the gods of their pagan allies and even embrace practices of idolatry. In 588 BC Jerusalem fell to the Babylonians and the king was blinded and led into slavery with most of his subjects just as Jeremiah had prophesied.

Ultimate reliance upon human capabilities is a sham. It didn’t work for the people of Jeremiah’s day. It won’t work today. The one lesson we need to learn from history is that our only true hope must be in God. We cannot even approach the creation of the perfect society ourselves. “Creation without the Creator fades into nothingness,” Christ even said it “cut off from me you can do nothing”.

In the gospel Luke said the poor are blessed because they have no choice but to trust in God. St. Luke addressed his gospel to the downtrodden, the lowly. He sees a tremendous virtue that the poor have: Because they recognize that what they have comes from God.

St. Paul sums up this message in today’s second reading: “If our hope is limited to this life only, we are the most pitiable of people.” 1 Corinthians 15:19.

My beloved friends, Jesus Christ is our only true hope and our only lasting refuge. We treasure our relationship with the Lord. Rich or poor in material possessions, Jesus Christ is the reason for our being. May God help us to understand this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

En la primera lectura de este domingo, Jeremías dice:

"Maldito el que confía en los seres humanos, que busca su fuerza en la carne, cuyo corazón se aleja del Señor". Jeremías fue el único profeta verdadero en Jerusalén que vivió los acontecimientos. resultando en la cautividad babilónica. El rey quería comprometer el poder de los babilonios a través de tratados militares.

Dios le dijo a Jeremías que proclamara que el hombre no podía resolver sus propios problemas. El hombre necesitaba confiar en Dios. Ese es un mensaje que todavía necesitamos escuchar. Jeremías aconsejó al Rey que él y todas las personas renovaran su compromiso con Yahweh y depositaran su fe en él para librarlos de los babilonios. Ese fue el camino de los fieles hebreos.

Moisés, Joshua, Gideon y todos los demás líderes militares exitosos confiaron en Dios para luchar la batalla contra el mal por ellos. Pero el rey Sedequías, con quien habló Jeremías, confió en sí mismo y en alianzas extranjeras. Esto fue un absoluto rechazo de Dios. Más que eso, estas alianzas significaron que la gente de Judá tendría que reconocer a los dioses de sus aliados paganos e incluso abrazar las prácticas de idolatría. En 588 AC, Jerusalén cayó ante los babilonios y el rey fue cegado y condenado a la esclavitud con la mayoría de sus súbditos, tal como Jeremías había profetizado.

La máxima confianza en las capacidades humanas es una farsa. No funcionó para la gente de los días de Jeremías.

No funcionará hoy. La única lección que debemos aprender de la historia es que nuestra única esperanza verdadera debe estar en Dios. Ni siquiera podemos acercarnos a la creación de la sociedad perfecta nosotros mismos. "La creación sin el Creador se desvanece en la nada", incluso Cristo dijo que "separado de mi, no puedes hacer nada".

En el evangelio, Lucas dijo que los pobres son bendecidos porque no tienen más remedio que confiar en Dios.

San Lucas dirigió su evangelio a los oprimidos, a los humildes. Ve una tremenda virtud que tienen los pobres:

porque reconocen que lo que tienen proviene de Dios.

San Pablo resume este mensaje en la segunda lectura de hoy: "Si nuestra esperanza se limita a esta vida solamente, somos los más lamentables de las personas". 1 Corintios 15:19.

Mis amados amigos, Jesucristo es nuestra única esperanza verdadera y nuestro único refugio duradero.

Valoramos nuestra relación con el Señor. Rico o pobre en posesiones materiales, Jesucristo es la razón de nuestro ser. Que Dios nos ayude a entender esto a través de Cristo nuestro Señor, Amén.

What means the Acolyte Rite?

As a Chosen for the ministry of acolyte, you have a special role in the Church’s ministry. The summit and source of the Church’s life is the Eucharist, which builds up the Christian community and makes it grow. It is your responsibility to assist the priests and deacons in carrying out their ministry, and as special ministers to give Holy Communion to the faithful at the liturgy and to the sick. Because you are specially called to this ministry, you should strive to live more fully by the Lord’s sacrifice and to be molded more perfectly in its likeness.

Como elegidos para el Ministerio de acólito, tiene un papel especial en el Ministerio de la iglesia.

La Cumbre y fuente de vida de la iglesia es la Eucaristía, que construye la comunidad cristiana y hace crecer. Es su responsabilidad de ayudar a los sacerdotes y diáconos en el desempeño de su Ministerio y como ministros especiales para dar la comunión a los fieles en la liturgia y a los enfermos.

Porque especialmente se llaman a este Ministerio,

debe esforzarse para vivir más plenamente por

el sacrificio del Señor y a ser moldeados más

perfectamente en su semejanza.

LAST YEARS PALMS We are asking everyone to bring in last year’s palms so we can reuse them as our ashes for Ash Wednesday on March 6th.

PALMAS DE AÑO PASADAS Pedimos a todos para traer últimos años palmas para re-usar para el Miércoles de Ceniza, 6 de Marzo.

ASH WEDNESDAY On March 6th, there will be an English Mass for Ash Wednesday at 8am in the Church.

We will be having a Communion Service at 12 noon as well as 4pm.

There will also be a bilingual mass later on in the evening at 7pm.

MIÉRCOLES DE CENIZA El 6 de Marzo, habrá una Misa en inglés para el Miércoles de Ceniza a las 8am en la iglesia.

Habrá un servicio de comunión al 12 mediodía y a las 4pm.

También habrá una Misa bilingüe en la tarde a las 7pm.

The parish office closes at 2:45pm on Sundays. Therefore all activities in the hall or in church’s compounds should be over latest 2:30pm, the gate will be locked at 2:50pm. Thanks for your understanding.
