PASTOR’S DESK
On this third Sunday of Easter, we proclaim that the risen Christ is the Lord. Today, through the celebration of the Eucharist, we affirm that He is the Lamb that was sacrificed. Hence, He is worthy to be given all power, honor, and glory. Both the first and the second readings of today bear great testimonies to the awesomeness of Christ.
In the first reading, Peter, and the apostles continued to bear testimony to the risen Christ. Not even the Jews could stop them. Fear now belonged to the past. So, Peter boldly said to the High Priest: “We are witnesses to all this, we and the Holy Spirit…” In spite of all the humiliations and threats to their lives, Peter insisted:
“ Obedience to God comes first before obedience to man.”
They are now confident that they will overcome death as Christ did. Their resoluteness reminds us that obedi- ence to God manifests itself in faithfulness to our voca- tions, and our witness for Christ.
In today’s gospel, Jesus appeared to his apostles for the third time. This time it was in the place of their “fishing business.” What a frustrated and embarrassed men they were! In spite of their fishing experience and skills they could not catch any fish. This is because they aban- doned their real business and mission. They acted con- trary to Christ’s mission statement for them: “From to- day on you will no longer catch fishes, I will make you fishers of men” (Mt 4, 9). They were supposed to be taking care of the Lord’s business and not theirs.
Also today Christ asked Peter thrice: “Simon, son of John, do you love me? Feed my lambs…look after my sheep…”? Christ needed to be assured of Peter’s com- mitment to lead his flock. This also showed the magni- tude of the mission that Christ was to entrust to Peter.
It was a way of reminding us that: “To whom much is given, much is expected.” Hence, Christ reminds us that our vocation is very important. He also reminds us that as his disciples, we must be ready to accept every kind of humiliation for the good news.
There are many other lessons to learn today. At times, we abandon our vocations, for other “more interesting things, or places.” Unfortunately, instead of progressing, we become frustrated like Peter and his companions. So, we fail most times because we are in the wrong place, or doing the right thing at the wrong time. Whenever we abandon the will of God and our vocation, we may labor in vain “all night long.”
Also, when we depend solely on our human instinct or senses rather than on spirit of God, success might elude us.
Finally, as Christ revealed himself to his disciples through the sacrifice of bread and wine, every day He continues to reveal Himself to us through the Holy Eucharist.
Therefore, at Mass, simple things like bread and wine helps us to discover the presence of the Lord among us. This is in spite of our infidelity and weakness. Through the Eucharist, Christ strengthens our faith. He also reminds us of our mission and who we ought to be. May God help us to understand this through Christ our Lord Amen.

En este tercer domingo de Pascua, proclamamos que Cristo resucitado es el Señor. Hoy, a través de la celebración de la Eucaristía, afirmamos que Él es el Cordero que fue sacrificado. Por lo tanto, Él es digno de recibir todo el poder, el honor y la gloria. Tanto la primera como la segunda lecturas de hoy dan grandes testimonios a la grandeza de Cristo.
En la primera lectura, Pedro y los apóstoles, continuaron dando testimonio de la resurrección de Cristo. Ni siquiera los judíos pudieron detenerlos. El miedo ahora pertenece al pasado. Entonces, Pedro audazmente le dijo al Sumo Sacerdote: "Somos testigos de todo esto, nosotros y el Espíritu Santo..." A pesar de todas las humillaciones y amenazas a sus vidas, Pedro insistió: "La obediencia a Dios es lo primero antes que la obediencia a los hombres.”
Ahora confían en que vencerán la muerte como lo hizo Cristo. Su resolución nos recuerda que la obediencia a Dios se manifiesta en fidelidad a nuestras vocaciones y nuestro testimonio de Cristo.
En el evangelio de hoy, Jesús se apareció a sus apóstoles por tercera vez. Esta vez fue en el lugar de su "negocio de pesca". ¡Qué hombres tan frustrados y avergonzados eran!
A pesar de su experiencia y habilidades de pesca, no pudieron atrapar ningún pez. Esto se debe a que abandonaron su verdadero negocio y misión. Actuaron de manera contraria a la declaración de la misión de Cristo para ellos:
"Desde hoy ya no pescarán peces, los haré pescadores de hombres" (Mt 4, 9). Se suponía que ellos estaban cuidando los asuntos del Señor y no los de ellos.
También hoy Cristo le preguntó a Pedro tres veces:
“Simón, hijo de Juan, ¿me amas? Alimentas a mis corderos...
cuidas de mis ovejas ..."? Cristo necesitaba estar seguro del compromiso de Pedro de guiar a su rebaño. Esto también mostró la magnitud de la misión que Cristo debía confiar a Pedro. Era una forma de recordarnos que: "A quien se le da mucho, se espera mucho". Por lo tanto, Cristo nos recuerda que nuestra vocación es muy importante. Tam- bién nos recuerda que, como sus discípulos, debemos estar listos para aceptar todo tipo de humillación por las buenas nuevas.
Hay muchas otras lecciones para aprender hoy. A veces, abandonamos nuestras vocaciones, por otras "cosas o lugares más interesantes". Desafortunadamente, en lugar de progresar, nos sentimos frustrados como Pedro y sus compañeros. Entonces, fallamos la mayoría de las veces porque estamos en el lugar equivocado, o haciendo lo correcto en el momento equivocado. Cada vez que abandonamos la voluntad de Dios y nuestra vocación, podemos trabajar en vano "toda la noche". Además, cuando dependemos únicamente de nuestro instinto humano y nuestros sentidos en lugar del espíritu de Dios, el éxito podría eludirnos.
Finalmente, como Cristo se reveló a sus discípulos a través del sacrificio del pan y el vino, todos los días continúa revelándose a nosotros a través de la Sagrada Eucaristía.
Por lo tanto, en la misa, las cosas simples como el pan y el vino nos ayudan a descubrir la presencia del Señor entre nosotros. Esto es a pesar de nuestra infidelidad y debilidad.
A través de la Eucaristía, Cristo fortalece nuestra fe. También nos recuerda nuestra misión y quiénes debemos ser. Que Dios nos ayude a entender esto a través de Cristo nuestro Señor Amén.

Fortunately, Mass Intentions are not for Sundays exclusively. At every Mass we share the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ and we listen to the Word of God. If someone’s birthday falls on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday, do not fret, schedule an Intention and your loved one will be remembered even if you can not attend Mass. The donation is $10 per Mass per name.

The Columbian Squires will be outside selling raffle tickets to Fishfest 2019, on May 18h & 19th and on May 25th & 26th. The concert is on June 1st, 2019 in Irvine at the Five Points Amphitheatre.
The concert starts at 4pm. Along with the 2 tickets you could also win a $25.00 gift card to In-N-Out.
The raffle tickets are $5.00 each. Fishfest is a concert given by musicians that have their music played on Air1. This year’s musicians include “tobymac, Kim Walker-Smith, Jordan Feliz, Hollyn, Zach Williams, Social Club Misfits & Land of Color”.
