The apostles ask Jesus when the end of times will

hap-pen. And will there be a sign. For each one of us, the end

can come at any time. We could die of a heart attack. We

could die in a car accident. The important thing to

remem-ber is--be prepared!

In the second reading, St. Paul tells us to get prepared by

imitating him. But he imitates Jesus: “It is not I who live,

but Jesus Christ who lives in me.” So we need to imitate

Jesus. And for that we need to pick up our cross every day

and follow Jesus who is the Way…all the way up to that

cross on Calvary.

But do you know what you are getting yourself into? Jesus

said “you will be HATED BY ALL because of my name.”

Why? Because of what you stand for. We live in a world

that is selfish. People live for pleasure. People live for

pow-er. People live for money. So it is inevitable. They are

go-ing to see that the way you live is different. The way you

act is different. The way you speak is different. They hate

Jesus, so when they see Him living His life through you,

they are going to persecute you, and have you thrown in

prison.

Well, you probably will not be thrown in prison, and you

probably will not shed blood for Jesus. But you will shed

tears in silence for Jesus. You will be despised. You will be

made fun of. You will be judged. But consider yourself

blessed. Like Jesus said: “Blessed are you when they

in-sult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil

against you falsely because of me, Rejoice and be glad,

for your reward will be great in heaven” (Mt. 5:11-12).

Why is that a good thing? It is good because it is an

oppor-tunity to testify. And the greatest testimony is fidelity to

God while you are suffering. that was the way God chose

for His own son to testify. Jesus’ suffering, death and

res-urrection became the greatest testimony…the greatest

homily ever told. It was a testimony to the depth of Jesus’

love for God and God & Jesus’ everlasting love for us. But

don’t worry about what you will say. People have said to

me “Father Del, they criticized my faith, but I had nothing

to say. I stayed silent.” Don’t worry about it. God will use

that silence. Like St. Francis said “Preach always—and

when necessary use words.” Preach with your life. And

God will give you the words and wisdom, courage and

grace to remain faithful to Him and to face any situation

together.

So the question you have to ask yourself is this: Are you

willing to stand up for Jesus? Then you have a unique

op-portunity happening before your very eyes. There is a dark

undercurrent happening in our society right now. There is a

new level, never seen before, of acts of hatred and words

of hatred being directed against people of Mexican and

Muslim heritage. These are families terrified for their lives.

It is so easy to get swept up into the mob mentality that all

immigrants are dangerous. Sure we need to protect our

borders and communities from radical terrorists. But not all

immigrants are terrorists.

So, we as disciples of Jesus Christ have a different calling.

Our calling is to stand up for Jesus by standing in solidarity

with our Mexican and Muslim brothers and sisters (who

aren’t terrorists), so that their dignity and human rights are

respected. And together with Jesus Christ, we can make a

difference.

Te van a despre-ciar. Van a burlarse de ti. Te van a juzgar.

Me quede cayado." No te preocupes.
