Feast of the Holy Trinity
Today we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Trinity. This is the foundation of our un- derstanding of God who created the universe and holds it in being; the God who gave his life that all might have life and the God who continues to be present to us as guide and protector. This is the God who offers us the model and example of how all relationships are to be developed. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says this about the Trinity: “The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central mystery of Christian faith and life. It is the mystery of God in himself. It is therefore the source of all the other mysteries of faith, the light that enlightens them. It is the most fundamental and essential teaching in the
‘hierarchy of the truths of faith’. The whole history of salvation is identical with the history of the way and the means by which the one true God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, reveals himself to men ‘and reconciles and unites with himself those who turn away from sin.’”(par.
234)
This is why the Catholic Church accepts no baptism unless it is done in the name of the Trinity. We do not accept any baptism if it is done only in the name of Jesus. But once we are baptized in the name of the Trinity, we can never be re-baptized nor can we give it back. Once received, it is forever. Once we are sealed and signed in the name of the Trinity, it is a forever relationship that cannot be undone. We can refuse to respond to its demands, we can even act as if it has no influence but once signed with this relational seal of God’s permanent claim on us, it lasts forever and goes with us to the grave. We cannot undue God’s claim on us once we have entered those waters and been signed in the name of the Trinity.
This is why it is so important for parents to understand what happens when they bring their children to the font of baptism. The relationship that is established in these wa- ters is a permanent relationship and is to be nurtured and strengthened throughout the life of the person. This is a tremendous responsibility for the parents but is also the most pre- cious gift that parents can give their children, namely; the establishment of this permanent relationship between their child and the Triune God. Fr. Mark Miller, C.PP.S.,

Meditation: The Most Holy Trinity
One God, his love poured into our hearts. One God, Fa- ther Creator, Jesus his Son and Holy Spirit: a trinity of one substance. With faith in Jesus “we have peace with God” and thus the grace of God’s life, the Spirit, surging in us. We might ask: In what ways might we become more aware of this divine presence within us?
