CONFERENCE FOR THE DIVORCED AND WIDOWED
LENTEN REGULATIOONS
1. Everyone 14 years of age or over is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent.
2. All from the age of 18 years up to the beginning of their 60th year are bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
3. On these two days of fast and abstinence, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige.
4. To disregard completely the law of fast and abstinence is seriously sinful.
5. Lent is the principal season of penance in the Church year. All of the faithful are strongly urged to develop and follow a program of voluntary self-denial (in addition to following the Lenten regulations), serious prayer, and a performance of works of charity and mercy.
6. Those who are sick, pregnant, or nursing, or whose health would adversely be affected by fasting or abstinence, should not consider themselves bound by these norms

Please consider donating used and new items to St. John’s Religious Education garage sale which will take place March 29-31. Drop off days for donations will be March 23 and March 25-27. This conference is a wonderful day of encouragement and support for those who are divorced or widowed. It will focus on the “Six Keys to Healing and God’s Plan for Your Life” led by Catholic author and speaker Lisa Duffy. The conference will be held on Saturday, March 16 at the Blanchette Catholic Center in Crest Hill. Check-in begins at 8:30am and the day concludes with a Vigil Mass at 4:00pm.
The suggested $35 donation includes morning coffee and refreshments, lunch, and materials. Please register by March 9 by calling the Office of Family Ministry of the Joliet Diocese at 815-838-5334 or online at https://conta.cc/2RULZmY.

REGULACIONES CUARESMALES
1.
Todas las personas mayores de 14 años tienen que abstenerse de comer carne durante el miércoles de Ceniza y todos los Viernes de la Cuaresma.2. Todas las personas mayores de 18 anos y meno- res de 59 años de edad obliga el ayunar el Miércoles de Ceniza
3. En estos tres días de ayuno y abstinencia, sola- mente un platillo sin carne es permitido. Dos platillos sin carne son suficiente para mantener la fuerza.
Puede ser tomada con la diferencia de cada caso. Co- mer entre comidas no es permitido en estos días, pero líquidos, incluyendo la leche y jugo de fruta son per- mitidos. Cuando la salud y la habilidad de trabajar esta afectada seriamente, la ley no es obligada.
4. Quebrar completamente la ley de ayunar y abste- ner es un pecado serio.
La Cuaresma es una época principal de penitencia en el año Cristiano. Todos los fieles son invitados a hacer un programa voluntario, orar, y actuar en trabajos de caridad.
