A Reflection for Holy Saturday :
The Lord’s descent into hell.
“What is happening? Today there is a great silence over the earth, a great silence, and stillness, a great silence because the King sleeps; the earth was in terror and was still, because God slept in the flesh and raised up those who were sleeping from the ages. God has died in the flesh, and the underworld has trembled.
Truly he goes to seek out our first parent like a lost sheep;
he wishes to visit those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death.
He goes to free the prisoner Adam and his fellowprisoner Eve from their pains, he who is God, and Adam's son.
The Lord goes in to them holding his victorious weapon, his cross.
When Adam, the first created man,
sees him, he strikes his breast in terror and calls out to all:
'My Lord be with you all.' And Christ in reply says to Ad- am: ‘And with your spirit.’ And grasping his hand he raises him up, saying: ‘Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light.

“Qué es lo que hoy sucede? Un gran silencio
envuelve la tierra; un gran silencio porque el Rey duerme.
«La tierra temió sobrecogida» porque Dios se durmió en la carne y ha despertado a los que dormían desde antiguo.
Dios en la carne ha muerto y el Abismo ha despertado.
Va a buscar a nuestro primer padre como si fuera la oveja perdida. Quiere absolutamente visitar «a los que viven en tinieblas y en sombra de muerte». El, que es al mismo tiempo Hijo de Dios, hijo de Eva, va a librar de su prisión y de sus dolores a Adán y a Eva.
El Señor, teniendo en sus manos las armas vencedoras de la cruz, se acerca a ellos. Al verlo nuestro primer padre Adán, asombrado por tan gran acontecimiento, exclama y dice a todos: Mi Señor esté con todos. Y Cristo,

Palm Sunday Abandonment and Salvation
Jesus came triumphantly into Jerusalem, but he knew what faced him. The death would be terrible, and the suffering that would accompany it would be searing.
Worst of all would be the pain of abandonment. Jesus would die abandoned by everyone. His friends and disciples would run away and leave him alone.
From among his very best friends, one would turn him over to the authorities and another would deny knowing him. Jesus’ experience of abandonment even seemed to extend to his Father: “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”
In dying his lonely death on the cross, Jesus brought salvation to all those who are abandoned by others: the poor, the homeless, the unemployed, the lonely elderly, those suffering from communicable diseases, the hungry, political prisoners, prostitutes, those on death row.
Jesus died and rose that they might be liberated from their abandonment.
“Your attitude must be Christ’s,” we are told by St. Paul.
We must empty ourselves and take the form of slaves on behalf of those who are abandoned by the world. The ultimate injustice is for a person or group to be treated actively or abandoned passively as if they were
nonmembers of the human race. To treat people this way is effectively to say that they simply do not count as human beings. U.S. Bishops,Economic Justice for All,
Domingo de Ramos Abandono y Salvación
Jesús entró triunfante en Jerusalén, pero sabía lo que le esperaba. La muerte sería terrible, y el sufrimiento que la acompañaría sería abrasador.
Lo peor de todo sería el dolor del abandono. Jesús moriría abandonado por todos. Sus amigos y discípulos huirían y lo dejarían solo.
De entre sus mejores amigos, uno lo entregaría a las autoridades y otro negaría conocerlo. La experiencia de abandono de Jesús parece extenderse incluso a su Padre:
“Dios mío, Dios mío, ¿por qué me has abandonado?”.

Debemos vaciarnos y tomar la forma de esclavos en nombre de los que están abandonados por el mundo. La máxima injusticia es que una persona o grupo sea tratado activamente o abandonado pasivamente como si no fuera miembro de la raza humana. Palm Sunday ± Passion Sunday ± Let us be Amazed!
Pope Francis asks what happened to those people who in admiration for Jesus, cried “Hosanna” but shortly afterward shouted “Crucify him.” What were they missing?
Let us ask for the grace to be amazed. A Christian life without amazement becomes drab and dreary. How can we talk about the joy of meeting Jesus, unless we are daily astonished and amazed by his love, which brings us forgiveness and the possibility of a new beginning? When faith no longer experiences amazement, it grows dull: it becomes blind to the wonders of grace; it can no longer taste the Bread of life and hear the Word; it can no longer perceive the beauty of our brothers and sisters and the gift of creation. It has no other course than to take refuge in legalisms, in clericalisms and in all these things that Jesus condemns in chapter 23 of the Gospel of Matthew. El Papa Francisco pregunta qué pasó con aquellas personas que en admiración por Jesús, gritaron “Hosanna” pero poco después gritaron “Crucifícalo”. ¿Qué les faltaba?
Pidamos la gracia de asombrarnos. Una vida cristiana sin asombro se vuelve monótona y triste. ¿Cómo podemos hablar de la alegría del encuentro con Jesús, si no nos asombramos y asombramos cada día de su amor, que nos trae el perdón y la posibilidad de un nuevo comienzo? Cuando la fe ya no experimenta asombro, se embota: se vuelve ciega a las maravillas de la gracia; ya no puede gustar el Pan de vida y oír la Palabra; ya no puede percibir la belleza de nuestros hermanos y hermanas y el don de la creación. No le queda más remedio que refugiarse en los legalismos, en los clericalismos y en todas esas cosas que Jesús condena en el capítulo 23 del Evangelio de Mateo.
