THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD
When I tell a story, I have a friend who prefers the
“nutshell version” first. After that she’ll listen to me
ramble, but she wants to know the main point right
off the bat. When reading and hearing Sunday
scrip-tures one may often find the nutshell by looking at
the responsorial psalm or the Gospel acclamation.
From Psalm 72 we hear “Lord, every nation on earth
will adore you.” The verse for the Gospel
acclama-tion is Matthew 2:2 “We saw his star at its rising and
have come to do him homage.” As a weary world,
we need to see the light, to follow with our actions
and our words. This is the same hope that is echoed
in Isaiah 60:2 “See, darkness covers the earth, / and
thick clouds cover the peoples; / but upon you the
LORD shines, / and over you appears his glory.”
Don’t give up, friends. You must shine!

BAPTISMS
Please contact Sr. Montserrat if you would like to
make arrangements to have your child(ren)
baptized. We require a copy of the child’s original
birth certificate.
PARISH REGISTRATION
St. Anthony’s Church welcomes all newcomers!
We encourage every parishioner to register and use
your weekly envelopes. This helps us know how
many active parishioners we have as well as
facilitating letters requested by you. We can not
attest to you attending Mass if you are not
registered and we do not know who you are. You
must be registered and attend Mass regularly for at
least 6 months. Please ask the ushers for a
registration card, complete it and drop it in the
collection basket or stop by the rectory during
regular business hours.

BUSCANDO
En el Evangelio de hoy de Mateo vemos dos perspec-tivas extremadamente diferentes, dos razones
diferentes para buscar a Jesús. En cierto modo, esto se parece a la polarización de nuestra nación en el tiempo actual. Lo que un grupo ve como bueno para la nación, quienes tienen puntos de vista opuesto piensan que eso arruinará el país. Los Reyes Magos eran astrólogos que vieron una visión en el cielo y trataban de encontrar una forma de seguirla y descubrir al nuevo rey de los judíos. Herodes escuchó acerca de este rey y su reac-ción fue oscura y negativa. Él vio el nacimiento de tal rey como una amenaza a su poder como líder romano del país y pidió a los Reyes Mayos le dijeran lo que sabían sobre ese niño mesías. De igual manera, en un nivel más personal, ya sea que nos podamos sentir amenazados o emocionados por los cambios que puedan venir, dependiendo de nuestra perspectiva.
