Howdy,
It is hard to believe, but Monday I will celebrate my 35th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood.
Where has all the time gone? I can truthfully say it has been a joy to serve here in the diocese of Phoenix.
My first Mass fell on the Feast of Corpus Christi, the Body and Blood of the Lord. What a great day to celebrate Mass for the first time! I remember that day well.
Last Tuesday at daily Mass, in our readings
St. Peter reminded us that Jesus said, “Be holy, for I am holy.” What did holiness mean to Jesus? It meant self-sacrifice; it meant living life for others more than self. As we receive the body and Blood, soul and Divinity of Jesus in Mass we must remem- ber that it is to strengthen us to be like Christ. It is to help us live our lives for others.
May each of us today, as we receive Holy
Communion, dedicate ourselves to living like and with Christ. May we be that sign in our world of the life God created us to live: a life for others.

Es difícil de creer, pero el lunes celebraré mi 35 aniversario de
ordenación al sacerdocio. ¡Como ha pasado el tiempo! Puedo decir sincera- mente que ha sido un placer servir aquí en la diócesis de Phoenix.
Mi primera misa fue en la fiesta del Corpus Christi, el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo. ¡Qué gran día para celebrar la Misa por primera vez! Recuerdo muy bien ese día.
El martes pasado en la misa del día, en nuestras lecturas, San Pedro nos recordó que Jesús dijo: "Sean santos, porque yo soy santo". ¿Qué significaba la santidad para Jesús? Significaba auto sacrificio;
significaba vivir la vida al servicio de los demás y no solo para uno mismo. Al recibir el Cuerpo y la Sangre, el Alma y la Divinidad de Jesús en la Misa, debemos recordar que es para
fortalecernos para ser como Cristo. Es para ayudarnos a vivir nuestras vidas al servicio de los demás.
Que cada uno de nosotros hoy, al recibir la Santa Comunión, nos dediquemos a vivir, como, y con Cristo. Que podamos ser ese signo en nuestro mundo de la vida para la que Dios nos creó, una vida al servicio de los demás.

El objetivo nocturno
Jesús, quien es Dios, vino “para servir no para ser servido" (Mt 20:28). En un matrimonio sacramental, debemos servir a nuestro cónyuge y a nuestra familia con un corazón feliz en lugar de resentido. Debido a que el hogar y los hijos pertenecen a ambos cónyuges, las responsabilidades de adminis- trar el hogar y cuidar de las necesidades de los hijos pertenecen a ambos cónyuges. Inde- pendientemente de si ambos cónyuges traba- jan fuera del hogar o solo uno, ambos deben abordar las tareas de la noche junto con un corazón feliz. Desarrolla y cultiva la idea de servir alegremente a tu preciosa esposa y fa- milia. En lugar de sentarse y relajarse mien- tras su amado prepara la cena, cocina, ayuda con la tarea, termina de lavar y se prepara para el negocio del día siguiente, colabore y asista. Cuando los quehaceres y las responsa- bilidades recaen principalmente en un cónyu- ge, las parejas pueden sentirse fácilmente uti- lizadas, se van separando y se hacen resenti- das. Pero cuando las parejas trabajan juntas con amor, amabilidad y respeto, el matrimo- nio y los lazos familiares se fortalecen.
Comparte esto con tu cónyuge. Revisa la carga del trabajo nocturno de la familia. Dios ama a un dador alegre, así que dale a tu cónyuge con amor y bondad genuinos. Debe- mos servirnos unos a otros como Cristo sirvió.
Debemos morir al egoísmo y abrazar la auto- donación porque Cristo dijo que así es como se vive el amor. Hagan una lista semanal de lo que se debe hacer cada noche. Ambos pueden cocinar, lavar los platos, lavar la ropa, los baños y la tarea, o estas tareas se pueden divi- dir como corresponde. El objetivo nocturno es que los cónyuges estén solos durante quince o treinta minutos para poder cerrar la puerta de su habitación y conectarse hablando, orando, teniendo tiempo de abrazarse o frotarse la espalda o los pies adoloridos.

The Nightly Goal
Jesus, who is God, came “to serve not to be served” (Mt 20:28). In a sacramental marriage, we are to serve our spouse and family with a happy ra- ther than a resentful heart. Because the home and children belong to both spouses, the re- sponsibilities of running the home and caring for the needs of the children belong to both spouses. Regardless of whether both spouses work outside the home or only one, both need to address the evening tasks together with a happy heart. Develop and cultivate the idea of joyfully serving your precious spouse and fam- ily. Instead of sitting and relaxing while your beloved makes dinner, does dishes, helps with homework, finishes the laundry and gets ready for the business of the next day, pitch in and assist. When chores and responsibilities fall primarily on one spouse, couples can easily feel used, grow apart and become resentful.
But, when couples work together lovingly, kindly and respectfully, marriage and family bonds are strengthened.
Share this with your spouse. Review the fami- ly’s nightly work load. God loves a cheerful giver so give to your spouse with genuine love and kindness. We are to serve each other as Christ served. We are to die to selfishness and embrace self-donation because Christ said that is how love is lived. Make a weekly list of what needs to be done each evening. Both can cook, do dishes, laundry, baths and homework or these tasks can be divided accordingly. The nightly goal is for spouses to be alone together for fifteen to thirty minutes so they can close their bedroom door and connect by talking, praying, having time to cuddle or rub each other’s aching backs or feet.

[email protected] En sexto grado, me asignaron un asiento junto a una niña de primer grado en el autobús escolar. Su uni- forme azul de cuadros me dijo que asistía a una escuela Católica. Las palabras que cantó me hicieron escuchar con más atención. Ella repitió el mismo estribillo varias veces. “Come su cuerpo, bebe su sangre, come su cuerpo, bebe su sangre". . .
“Eso es asqueroso!” Le comenté a mi madre más tarde.” No, no lo es. Ella canta sobre la comunión ", explicó mi madre. “No es diferente a las canciones que cantamos en nuestra iglesia". No cantamos sobre beber la sangre, pero sí cantamos acerca de ser lava- dos en la sangre de Jesús. No había considerado cuán extraña podría sonar ese canto para alguien que nunca la había escuchado.
Hoy celebramos La Solemnidad del Santísimo Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo. Es una celebración espe- cialmente significativa para mí porque crecí fuera de la Iglesia y no sabía nada de la Eucaristía. El len- guaje de la alianza es preocupante para aquellos que no saben lo que sucede en el altar en la Misa.
¿Sabemos, quienes venimos a Misa, lo que significa comer el Cuerpo de Cristo y beber su Sangre?

[email protected] In sixth grade I was assigned a seat next to a first-grade girl on the school bus. Her blue plaid uniform told me she attended a Catholic school. The words she sang caused me to listen more carefully. She repeated the same refrain several times. “Eat his body, drink his blood, eat his body, drink his blood . . .” “That’s so sick!” I later commented to my mom. “No, it isn’t.
She’s singing about communion,” my mother explained.
“It’s no different than the songs we sing at our church.”
We didn’t sing about drinking the blood, but we did sing about being washed in Jesus’ blood. I had not considered how strange such a song might sound to someone who had never heard it.
Today we celebrate The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. It’s an especially meaningful celebration to me because I grew up outside the Church and knowing nothing of the Eucharist. Covenant lan- guage is troubling to those who do not know what hap- pens on the altar at Mass. Do we who come to Mass eve- ry Sunday know what it means to eat Christ’s Body and drink his Blood? Is our ancient ritual language in need of updating?
