ADVENT JOY
We don’t often associate joy with the experience of preparing for confession. We sometimes experience unpleasant feelings of guilt and shame when we consider
the true nature of our sins.
We also can experience unpleasant feelings of fear and embarrassment when we consider the possibility of giving voice to our sins in our confession to a priest. But when we hear words of comfort and consolation, words of encouragement and hope, words of mercy and forgiveness, when we hear the words of absolution, our hearts are filled with peace, and our hearts are filled with joy.
If you doubt what I say, ask one of the many young parishioners who left the reconciliation room after their first confession announcing to those in line: “That was awesome!”
On many occasions throughout these
coming weeks, and in particular this Monday, December 13, we celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation here at Good Shepherd Church. I pray that your celebration of this sacrament may be a source of Advent joy!
GOZO DE ADVIENTO
No siempre asociamos el gozo con la experiencia en prepararnos para la confesión. A veces experimentamos
sentimientos pesados de culpa y vergüenza cuando consideramos la verdadera naturaleza de nuestros pecados.
También podemos experimentar sentimientos de temor y vergüenza a la posibilidad de dar voz a nuestros pecados en la confesión con el sacerdote. Pero cuando escuchamos palabras de consuelo y de ánimo, de esperanza, misericordia y perdón en la absolución, nuestros corazones se llenan de paz y gozo.
Si tienes alguna duda, pregunta a uno de los muchos jóvenes feligreses que al salir del cuarto de la reconciliación después de su primera confesión anunciaron a los que están en fila: “¡Eso fue genial!”
En muchas ocasiones durante las próximas semanas, y especialmente mañana, 13 de diciembre, tendremos el sacramento de la Reconciliación aquí en El Buen Pastor. ¡Pido en mis oraciones que tu celebración de este sacramento sea una fuente de gozo en este Adviento!

CHRISTMAS EVE: SPECIAL NOTES
Seating - the 4pm Christmas Eve Mass will be celebrated in the church and in Creedon Hall. Once the church is full, people will be directed to the hall by our ushers.
Music before Mass - there will be music – including singing of Christmas carols by the assembly - before all Masses.
Traffic and Parking - the Knights of Columbus and police officers will direct traffic in the parking lot and the entrance to Mount Vernon Highway. Please follow their directions (and give them a wave of thanks!)
Let’s all remember to be especially courteous to each other on this special night, both in the church and in the parking lot.

FORMACIÓN DE FE PRE K-12 & FAMILIAS¡Hoy es el tercer domingo de Adviento, Domingo de Gaudete! El sacerdote está vestido de color rosado y las decoraciones litúrgicas son rosadas. Encendemos la 1ra y la 2da vela violeta y la vela rosada.

Próxima reunión de padres:
lunes 10 de enero o martes, 11 de enero, 7:30pm En el tiempo de Adviento, tomamos consciencia de los menos afortunados y les presentamos un proyecto de Obras de Misericordia. Los estudiantes están aprendiendo las Obras Corporales y Espirituales de la Misericordia y cómo hacerlos un hábito, en lugar de “obtener horas de servicio”. ¡Las familias deben escoger y trabajar juntos! Como siempre, todas las familias registradas deben asistir a Misa, trabajar en los semanarios del Evangelio y mensajes de la revista marrón.
Para retirar los materiales de Gospel Weeklies del trimestre, llegar en horario de oficina de lunes a viernes, 9:30am - 5pm o llame a Paige para coordinar un horario.
PREPARACIÓN SACRAMENTAL
7º - 12º grados Los estudiantes de la Confirmación Año 1 o 2, debencompletar el “Gospel Weeklies” cada semana y responder dos preguntas del libro en noviembre y diciembre. Estudiantes en Año 2 deben tener el libro “Ungidos” en casa y completar el primer capítulo y dos reuniones con su líder de grupo.

The priest is wearing pink and the liturgical decorations are pink. We light the first and second purple candles and the pink candle.
Week 1 Hope We anticipate the coming of the Messiah!
Week 2 Faith We remember the faith of Mary and Joseph.
Week 3 Joy We rejoice knowing that the Savior will be born!
FAITH CONVERSATIONS
This week’s Gospel (Luke 3:10-18) we hear John the Baptist give the crowd advice, which includes giving food and clothes to those in need. Let us remember that what we really need to do this Advent season is to prepare our heart for Jesus!

The Gospel Weeklies have some great ideas, and look for more in the Wednesday emails! Students are learning the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy and how to make them a habit, rather than
“getting service hours.” Families should pick a few to work on together! And as always, all registered families should be attending Mass, working on the Gospel Weeklies and the brown journal prompts.

SACRAMENT PREPARATION
Grades 7 - 12 Teens in Confirmation preparation, Year 1 or 2, should be completing the Gospel Weeklies exercises every week and responding to two journal prompts for the months of November and December. Year 2 students should have the Anointed book at home and complete the first chapter, and two virtual meetings with your student’s small group leader.VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Small Group Leader to help prepare 5 - 10 teens for Confirmation. It is a great way to make a difference to a teenager and live out Matthew 28:19! Please contact Paige.

Los símbolos de la cuarta semana de Adviento tratan sobre las personas que participaron en el milagroso nacimiento de Jesús.
• Comenzamos con los padres de María: Ana y Joaquín,

THE FOURTH WEEK December 19 - 25
The symbols of the fourth week of Advent deal with the people involved with the miraculous birth of Jesus.
• We start with the parents of Mary, Anne and Joachim,
• who brought Mary up in the readiness to
always do God’s will (Lk 1:26-38). This prepared her to accept God’s invitation to become the mother of his Son.
• Joseph (Mt 1:18-25) lovingly fulfilled his role as the husband of Mary and the protective foster father of Jesus.
• The little town of Bethlehem, with its mysterious star, was the setting for Jesus’
birth.
• The shepherds in the fields were the first to hear the news
• proclaimed by the angels who filled the sky.
• And so it was that Jesus came to be born, closing the final chapter of the saga that had begun so long ago.
Yet His birth is also the beginning of a new and even more wondrous story for all people!
