LIFE FROM DEATH

Lent is about Easter, and Easter is about life a er death. As we draw closer to Easter, the Sunday readings become more and more explicit about this.

In a rather dry, ma er-of-fact way, today’s reading from St. Paul’s Le er to the Romans teaches that our “mortal bodies” will be raised to life. But in a far more gripping way, the Lord shouts at us through the prophet Ezekiel, “O my people, I will open your graves . . . I will put my spirit in you . . . I have promised, and I will do it.” When Jesus saw the people weeping over the death of Lazarus, he was troubled in spirit and moved by the deepest emo ons. Approaching the tomb, Jesus himself began to weep. He loved Lazarus. In fact, Jesus loved Lazarus so much that he snatched him out of his tomb, back to life. That’s how God loves us.

Jesús amaba a Lázaro.

EASTER TV MASS FOR THE HOMEBOUND

Is someone you love unable to get to church? TV Mass on Easter and every Sunday gives spiritual comfort to the homebound. Tune in at 9:00 a.m. on KDOC channel 56. For cable/satellite listings, or to view the Mass online, visit

www.MySundayMass.org

. (TV or online liturgy

does not meet the Sunday Mass obligation if you can get to church.)

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

There is a geography to the liturgy of bap sm that dis lls the journey of faith. Each part of the liturgy is assigned to a dis nct part of the church building. Bap sm, whether of infants carried to church by their parents or of adults following the paschal candle into a darkened church at Easter, starts at the door. First, a threshold must be crossed and a new community of meaning and memory

encountered for the first me. Then, the celebra on moves to the place for God’s Word. Next, as the litany of the saints is sung, there is a procession to the font. Finally, the

movement is to the table, the altar of the Eucharist. There, newly bap zed adults are brought to the sacred meal, or the parents of infants are blessed and reminded that their child will one day share fully in the table’s banquet. Many Catholic churches honor this geography by placing the font near the door, or at least small vessels with water. The doorway of our church is a place of memory, and a passageway to a new way of living.

TOGETHER IN MISSION PLEDGE BILLINGS

The monthly pledge billings for the Together in Mission pledges have been mailed. It is very important that these pledges be paid so that our parish will reach and hopefully exceed our goal.

Once the pledge payments have exceeded our goal, we receive all the additional funds for use in our parish ministries. TOGETHER IN MISSION PARISH GOAL: $32,391.88 AMOUNT PLEDGED : $22,260.00 AMOUNT PAID: $13, 977.37 PLEDGE NEEDED: $10,131.88

NUMBER OF FAMILIES PLEDGED: 207

Would you consider faithfully, a pledge of $60.00 per family?

This way, the burden will be light for each family to donate. If we have 500 pledges, we would make our goal complete. May God reward your generosity.

TOTAL PROMETIDO: $22,260.00 TOTAL PAGADO: 13,977.37

SALDO: $10,131.88
