THIRTY– SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME NOVEMBER 8, 2015
TRIGÉSIMO SEGUNDO DOMINGO EN TIEMPO ORDINARIO 8 DE NOVIEMBRE, 2015 TRENTADUESIMA DOMENICA DEL TEMPO ORDINARIO 8 DI NOVEMBRE, 2015
“He sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow also came and put two small coins worth a few cents…They have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood…. ‘The jar of flour
shall not run empty, nor the jug of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain upon the earth.’” The psalmist asked ‘What return shall I Give the Lord for all He has given me?’ It is a question best left unanswered, as I ask myself ‘what do I have that is not a gift of God to me?’ The gift of life, of health, of family and friends, the gift to be able to get up, to pray, to do good for others. I should, not could, spend a
long time pondering this question. The two widows of the scriptures, the biblically dependent and persons who should be the object of our charity, gave the few cents, drops of oil and quantity of flour, and made a difference. I claim to be a disciple, but often do the minimum of what is asked of me, worry about tomorrow when someone is in need today. Pope Francis speaks of a church of the poor to serve the poor. It might not be a copper coin or oil or flour, but certainly I can give of myself, as the celebrated women of the scriptures did to teach me.
