Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, is a title of the Blessed Virgin Mary in relation to the Ro- sary. Formerly known as Our Lady of Victory and Feast of the Holy Rosary, a feast day celebrated on 7 October in the Roman Catholic church, the anniversary of the decisive victory of the combined fleet of the Holy League of 1571 over the Ottoman navy at the Battle of Le- panto.

This feast was instituted by Pope St. Pius V in thanksgiving for the great naval victory over the Turks at the battle of Lepanto on this day in the year 1570, a favor due to the recitation of the Rosary. This victory saved Europe from being overrun by the forces of Islam.

Lepanto, perhaps the most complete victory ever gained over the Ottoman Empire, on October 7, 1571, is commemorated by the invocation "Help of Christians," inserted in the Litany of Loretto. A second victory gained that year on the Octave of the Assumption determined Pope Clem- ent XI to command the Feast of the Rosary to be celebrated by the universal Church. Leo XIII added the invocation "Queen of the most Holy Rosary, pray for us," to the Litany of Loretto. The Feast is in reality a great fes- tival of thanksgiving for the signal and countless benefits bestowed on Christendom through the Rosary of our blessed Queen.

In modern times successive popes have urged the faithful to pray the Rosary. It is a form of contemplative prayer, mental and vocal prayer, which brings down God’s blessing on the Church. It is a biblically inspired prayer which is centered on meditation on the salvific mysteries of Christ in union with Mary, who was so closely asso- ciated with her Son in his redeeming activity.

October is the month to honor Mother Mary in a very special way by praying the rosary daily as a devotion.

October 7 is the feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary. In a Rosary rally led by Father Payton, he reminded each of us that the FAMILY THAT PRAYS TOGETHER, STAYS TOGETHER. We ask Mary to pray for us and for the Church, and for whole world esp. those who are suffering, healing for the sick ,the conversion of hardened sinners , for good health , end of pandemic and abortion. May Mary, the Lady of the Holy Rosary enfold us under the mantle of her care and protection.

Reflexión del evangelio de Marcos 10, 2-16. El matrimonio

En la familia todo está entrelazado: cuando su alma está herida en algún punto, la infección contagia a todos. Y cuando un hombre y una mujer, que se han comprometido a ser “una sola carne” y a formar una familia, piensa obsesivamente en las propias exigencias de libertad y de gratificación, esta distorsión afecta profundamente el corazón y la vida de los hijos. Tan- tas veces los niños se esconden para llorar solos… Debemos entender bien esto. Marido y mujer son una sola carne. Pero sus criaturas son carne de su carne. Si pensamos en la dureza con la que Jesús advierte a los adultos sobre no escandalizar a los pequeños podemos comprender mejor también su palabra sobre la grave responsabilidad de custodiar la unión conyugal que da inicio a la familia humana. Cuando el hombre y la mujer se convierten en una sola carne, todas las heridas y todos los abandonos del papá y de la mamá inciden en la carne viva de los hijos.

Es verdad, por otra parte, que hay casos en los que la separación es inevitable. A veces se puede convertir incluso en moral- mente necesaria, cuando se trata precisamente para proteger al cónyuge más débil, o a los hijos pequeños, de las heridas más graves causadas por la prepotencia y la violencia, del enfado o del aprovecharse, de la alienación y de la indiferencia. “ El Evangelio del día de hoy nos permite hacer una brevísima reflexión sobre la dignidad del matrimonio cristiano y la grandeza de la fidelidad conyugal. Existen ya tantas y tantas páginas sobre este tema, que es imposible decir algo nuevo.

Pero no es lo que pretendo. Y tampoco me voy a detener en aspectos doctrinales que considero que ya te son muy bien cono- cidos. Simplemente deseo compartir, algunas experiencias, pues las páginas más bellas y fascinantes son las que se han es- crito no con tinta, sino con el amor, la sangre y la vida misma.

Creo que todos guardamos en nuestra memoria testimonios muy hermosos y admirables de esposos cristianos, que han sido ejemplo de auténtico amor y fidelidad conyugal a lo largo de su vida, a pesar de las mil dificultades de todos los días. Más aún, es precisamente en las pruebas donde este amor se acrisola, y el paso de los años

agigantan y embellecen la fidelidad.

Hace ya tiempo conocí a una señora sevillana, todavía joven y bella, que llevaba como veinte años de viuda y que había sacado adelante a sus cinco hijos no sin pocos sacrificios, pero con un grandísimo amor y dedicación admirable. Y, conversando

con ella, me decía en una ocasión que se sentía profundamente orgullosa de su familia y de su matrimonio; que para ella, su esposo no había muerto, pues siempre había permanecido vivo en su pensamiento y en su corazón. Y me dejó muy impresionado cuando me confesó: Mire este anillo de bodas. Se ha embellecido mucho a lo largo de todos estos años y ahora su precio es incalculable: vale muchísimos más quilates que cuando me casé. ¡Qué testimonio tan maravilloso de amor y de fidelidad de esta mujer! Good morning! Here is the message for the parish bulletin from the school. Please repeat this message through the weekend of Oct 2/3:

Blessings to all the members of the parish community from the school!

We are already at the half-way point of the first trimester and progress reports have been issued. Our faith les- sons have focused on daily prayer and on living out the virtues of prayerfulness, obedience, gratitude, generosity and humility. So far, our campus health and safety procedures have been successful in preventing the spread of COVID on our school campus. And, we have started our PAL sports program again. Our girls volleyball and co-ed cross-country teams have been practicing and competing against schools across the diocese.

Through the dedication and commitment of Monsignor James Poole, the apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and many of the parishioners here today, the school was opened in 1961. This year, through the ongoing dedication of Father Oscar, our many pastors over the years, parochial vicars, parishioners, families and staff, the school celebrates 60 years of service to the church and to the faith and academic preparation of children. We will cele- brate this milestone with Sunday Mass on October 17th. We look forward to celebrating with our parish
