WEEKLY HOMILY / HOMILÍA SEMANAL
Fifth Sunday of Easter/Quinto Domingo de Pascua Ciclo/Cycle A
In today’s Gospel Phillip, one of the disciples, asked Jesus: “Show us the Father, and that
will be enough for us?” And Christ answers to him: “Have I been with you so long a time and you
still do not know me? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me? At this
moment Christ is not only giving a clear and straightforward answer to Phillip and the rest of the
apostles, but He wanted to bring them to something more deep than to a simple rational knowledge
of the Father almighty. Because in this answer of Christ is unveiled the unity, or better said the
communion of persons, “The one who sees me sees the Father.” To this communion, common
union, Christ is calling all of us today. So we can experience the love of the Father. This answer of
Christ not only makes a reference to his relationship with the Father, but to something more
profound. Further in the Gospel we will see Jesus identifying himself with his disciples and
followers, as we read: “the one who receives you, receives me and the one who receives me
receives him who sent me…” For this same reason, this specific knowledge of the Father, this
intimate relationship between Jesus and the Father brings forward Christians to make themselves
one with Christ and the almighty Father. Logically, this has to put a question to ourselves: How can
I achieve this kind of communion with Jesus and the Father? This is what we are celebrating every
Sunday at mass, the fact that we have been able to receive Holy Communion, makes us to enter in
this total and intimate relationship with the Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Not only for
our personal growth, but in order to those who surrounded us, the whole wide world, seeing us they
can see Christ, an as consequence, they can bless the Father creator of everything in heaven and on
earth. May God bless you always.
vosotros, y no me conoces? El que me ha visto a mi, ha visto al Padre.” Aquí Cristo, no solamente

LONGING
The hand will not reach out for

THE WAY
Today we sense the apostles' trepidation
as they begin to realize that the Lord would
soon be leaving them. In their fear, they ask,
"Master, we do not know where you are going;
how can we know the way?" (John 14:5).
Jesus tells them that he is the way. The Easter
season has been a time of growing in Easter
faith so that we, too, may learn to know that
Jesus is the way. We can take comfort in the
Lord's promise that he is going to his Father's
house to prepare a place for us, his chosen
people who have been called out of darkness
into God's wonderful light. As the paschal
candle continues to burn during this holy
season, let us remember that in baptism we
were given the light of Christ. With Christ our
light as the beacon lighting our way, let us
march toward the glory of Pentecost.

Temerosos preguntan: "Señor, no
sabemos a dónde vas ¿cómo podemos saber el
camino?" (Juan 14:5). Jesús les dice que él es el
camino.
