Overall Aims of the course

By the end of the course the student should has:

1) knowledge about common ophthalmic diseases 2) skills of dealing with ophthalmic emergencies 3) capability of referring to higher level of

specifications

4) transferable skills of basic ophthalmic care and preventive measures to community

5) integration of progress in ophthalmic knowledge and ability of self-education

Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:

A1) identify manifestation of common ocular disorders

A2) Identify the ocular manifestations of the systemic disease

A3) define the main therapeutic lines of ophthalmic health care

B1) Differentiate the most important ophthalmic symptoms and signs

B2) interpret the basic investigations related to ophthalmic disease

5.Teaching and Learning Methods

5.1. data-show presentations in lectures.

5.2. video presentations 5.3. out patients clinics

5.4. small groups attending ophthalmic operative theatre

5.5. a. Clinical rounds: direct contact with clinical cases to acquire the skills of dealing with the patients, history taking, identifying physical signs and interpretation of data to achieve differential diagnosis

5.5.b. Additional Activities:

a. Video presentations of the common ophthalmic surgical procedures b. Power point presentations of

images for different clinical signs and clinical problem solving

c. Attending the ophthalmic out- patient clinic

Making posters, 2 posters for each group and the best three posters will be presented in the Upper Egypt Ophthalmology conference

A. Student Assessment Methods

7.1) written exams to assess knowledge and understanding of subjects

7.2) MCQ exams to assess knowledge, interpretation and criticism

7.4) clinical exams to assess clinical skills and ability to solve clinical problems

B. Assessment Schedule Clinical exams held 5 times / year once for each group.
