Dear Families:
Jesus proclaimed that the Kingdom of God was for
everyone. The poor, the oppressed, those who were outcasts, foreigners... all were invited to enter the Kingdom of
God. Since then, this message has not changed. The Church preaches about Jesus, who has come to call everyone - the rich and poor, educated, or ignorant, children and young people, black and white - to be part of his kingdom. Our rich diversity, here in Sarasota, contributes strength to the fabric of our city, and empowers our tes mony. Anyone who comes here will find, in our Chris an community of St. Jude, a place to prac ce, celebrate and live their faith. No one is excluded. And it will always remain this way, with projects open to all without dis nc on.
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus was being ques oned by the authori es. They did not accept that a carpenter from Nazareth came to teach them a lesson that made them uncomfortable. Therefore, they wanted to kill him by throwing him over a cliff. Nonetheless, the Gospel tells us that Jesus made his way through them and con nued his journey.
Nothing and no one was going to stop Jesus. No one will stop His tenure in our history, nor His love for humanity. Jesus had made an appeal to all alike to be a part of his kingdom, but some tried to draw dis nc ons. They failed to follow Jesus' teachings, when they refused to accept that all are called; that Jesus speaks out for the poor, the oppressed, the suffering.
Instead, they prac ced discrimina on.
Yet, Jesus con nued his preaching; performed miracles;
comforted the afflicted; and announced the Good News of God's salva on to all, without dis nc on. This is why he was killed. People were astonished by Jesus; others were
surprised; and yet others rejected him and became indignant, because of what he said. The same is true today. Even now there are those who simply do not believe, and go about their lives, as though He doesn't exist.
People come and go; ideologies fail, and, poli cal systems collapse, but never in 2022 years of Chris anity, has the Gospel of Jesus ceased to be always new, valid, unique, and relevant to the mes. For this reason, we must be bold in announcing the Good News and valiant in bearing witness to our faith. And above all, we must be especially strong and vigilant, in
announcing the Good News to our children and youth, in a constant and generous way.

Queridas familias:
Jesús proclamó que el Reino de Dios era para todos. Los pobres, los oprimidos, los que eran rechazados por la sociedad, los que eran de otros pueblos…todos estaban invitados a entrar en el Reino de Dios. Y desde entonces este mensaje no ha cambiado. La Iglesia predica a Jesús que ha venido a llamar a todos: ricos y pobres, ignorantes o instruidos, niños y jóvenes, blancos y negros a formar parte de su reino. Nosotros, en nuestra comunidad, somos una familia tan variada que ahí está nuestra riqueza y la fuerza de nuestro tes monio. Cualquiera que venga a esta ciudad encontrará en nuestra comunidad cris ana de San Judas un lugar donde prac car, celebrar y vivir su fe. Nadie es excluido. Y así ha de ser siempre. Y además unos proyectos abiertos a todos sin dis nción.
Si leen el evangelio de este domingo se darán cuenta de que Jesús estaba siendo cues onado por las autoridades. No aceptaban que un carpintero de Nazaret viniera a darles una lección que les era molesta. Por eso querían matarlo despeñándolo por un barranco que había en el pueblo. Sin embargo, nos dice el evangelio, Jesús se abrió paso entre ellos y se alejó de allí siguiendo su camino.
Nada ni nadie va a detener a Jesús. Su paso por nuestra historia no lo de ene nadie. Su amor por la humanidad no puede pararlo nadie. Jesús había hecho un llamamiento a que todos por igual formaran parte de su reino, pero ellos hicieron divisiones; enen prejuicio de Jesús, no aceptan que todos sean llamados, que Jesús hable de los pobres, de los oprimidos, de los que sufren. Ellos eran discriminatorios.
A pesar de todo Jesús siguió su predicación, hizo milagros, consoló a los afligidos, anunció la buena No cia de la salvación de Dios para todos sin dis nción, y por eso lo mataron. Ante Jesús la gente se admiraba, otros se sorprendían, otros lo rechazan y se indignaban de lo que decía. Lo mismo sucede hoy, e incluso hay quienes simplemente no creen y siguen su vida.
Los hombres pasan, las ideologías fracasan, los sistemas polí cos se desploman, pero nunca en 2022 años de cris anismo ha dejado de ser siempre nuevo, válido, único y actual el evangelio de Jesús. Por eso hay que ser valientes en su anuncio y valientes en el tes monio de nuestra vida de fe. Y, sobre todo, firmes y conscientes de que debe ser anunciado a los niños y jóvenes de una forma constante y generosa.

Wednesday, February 2nd is The Feast of the Presenta on of the Lord, also known as Candlemas, the Feast of the Purifica on of the Virgin, or Our Lady of Candelaria. It is one of the oldest feasts of the Catholic Church (IV century). It is the day that the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph present their son, Jesus, to God. Old Simeon is filled with joy because God visited his people, bringing salva on to him, in his old age. Through him, we contemplate the fact that God himself, the living and true God, is radically commi ed to humanity ("God-with-us"). Simeon prophesizes about the child, showing the mystery of his passion, death, and resurrec on.
It is also called the Feast of the Purifica on of Our Lady because according to Jewish custom, women had to wait 40 days a er giving birth to return to the temple. On that occasion, she must fulfill the offering prescribed by law. The Virgin Mary was, naturally, a part of the religious society of her me.

Vivimos en un mundo materializado y contra Dios en tantos aspectos: roto en las ilusiones de los jóvenes, en la violencia, en el terrorismo, en “dioses diabólicos”. No rompan los deseos de sus corazones de construir la historia de Dios en cada fa- milia.
El Miércoles 2 de febrero es la fiesta de la Presentación del Señor. También se llama a este día la fiesta de la Purificación, o Virgen de la Candelaria. Es una de las fiestas más an gua de la Iglesia Católica (Siglo IV). Es el día en que la Virgen María y San José presentan ante Dios a su hijo Jesús. El viejo Simeón se llena de alegría, porque Dios visitó a su pueblo, trayendo la salvación que él, ya en edad avanzada, puede contemplar. El propio Dios, Dios vivo y verdadero, Dios-con-nosotros, se com- promete radicalmente con la humanidad. Simeón profe za sobre el niño, mostrando el misterio de su pasión, muerte y resurrección.
Se llama también la fiesta de la Purificación de Nuestra Señora porque según la costumbre judía, solamente 40 días después del parto la mujer podía frecuentar de nuevo el templo. En esa ocasión debía cumplir la ofrenda prescrita por la ley. La Virgen María estaba perfectamente insertada en la sociedad religiosa de su empo.
Que Dios y la Virgen los ayuden.

Saint John Bosco
1815 - 1888 Feast Day - January 31
Born to a poor family in Italy, this patron saint of editors and laborers is considered one of the great social saints. Ordained a priest in 1841, he was sent to study theology in Turin, where he became a magnet for neglected youths during a turbulent period of rapid industrializa on and revolu onary poli cs. Don Bosco, who once hoped to become a foreign missionary, founded the Salesians in 1854.
The order sheltered more than 800 orphan boys, then opened workshops for shoemakers, tailors, bookbinders and other trades. Don Bosco was also a prolific writer, and co-founded a women’s
congrega on to work among girls. When he died, more than 40,000 people in Turin filed past his coffin to show their love and respect.
Juan, nació en el seno de una familia pobre en Italia, es el santo patrón de los escritores y de los obreros y es considerado uno de los grandes santos sociales.
En 1841, fue ordenado sacerdote y enviado a estudiar teología en Torino, en donde mucha de la juventud ignorada se sin ó atraída a él durante el turbulento y rápido período de la industrialización y de las polí cas revolucionarias. Don Bosco, quien alguna vez quiso ser misionero en el extranjero, fundó la orden de los Salesianos en 1854. La orden acogió a más de 800 niños huérfanos y, más
