Solemnity of Christ the King November 20, 2016

80 South Market Street, San José, CA 95113-2321 408-283-8100 www.stjosephcathedral.org ,

Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph

“The rulers sneered at Jesus and said, “He saved others, let him save himself if he is the chosen one, the Christ of God.”

Even the soldiers jeered at him.

“If you are King of the Jews, save yourself.”

Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying,

“Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us.”

The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply,

“Have you no fear of God, we have been condemned justly, but this man has done nothing criminal.” Then he said,

“Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

He replied to him,“Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

Luke / Lucas 23:25-43

Reflection 

This week we celebrate Christ the King. In the best sense of the word, a King is some one who cares for the people under his care, and also has authority over them. When have you felt Jesus’ care for you? How

do you allow Jesus to have authority over you?

 As you think about Jesus on the cross, having compassion on the “good

thief,” what lesson do you draw from it for your own life?

A Time to Move from Darkness to Light

Saturday, December 3rd 8:30 am-3:00pm

In this time of confusion, turmoil and uncertainty that we face as a nation and as citizens of this world, is there any hope that we can look forward to tomorrow?
