Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
I will give thanks to you, O Lord, with all my heart, for you have
heard the words of my mouth.
— Psalm 138:1
THEOPHANIES. Today’s readings recount three theophanies, or particular manifestations of God’s presence.
The prophet Isaiah is caught up in a dramatic scene of heavenly worship, with a royal throne, burning embers, and seraphim singing, “Holy, holy, holy.” Isaiah is overwhelmed.
In the responsorial psalm, the assembly adds its own worship to that of the seraphim: “In the sight of the angels, I will sing your praises, Lord” (Psalm 138:1).
Paul reminds the Corinthians of his own experience of a post- Resurrection appearance of the Lord, making him an apostle, but one “born abnormally” (1 Corinthians 15:8), since he had no acquaintance with the earthly Jesus. The first of those who did know the earthly Jesus were surprised by fishing advice from the teacher who had commandeered Simon’s boat, resulting in an extraordinary catch. Although less colorful than those of Isaiah or Paul, this theophany was just as overwhelming. —Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

First Reading — In a vision Isaiah is called to be a messenger for the L of hosts. Isaiah responds, “Send me!” (Isaiah 6:1-2a, 3-8)
Psalm — In the sight of the angels I will sing your praises, Lord (Psalm 138).
Second Reading — Paul reminds us of the gospel he preached through which we are saved, if we believe it (1 Corinthians 15:1-11 [3-8, 11]).
Gospel — Jesus directs Simon to take his boat into deep water for a miraculous catch of fish. Simon and his partners leave all to follow Jesus (Luke 5:1-11).

PRAYER OF THE WEEK Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Keep your family safe, O Lord, with unfailing care, that, relying solely on the hope of heavenly grace, they may be defended always by your protection.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
Reflection question:
How can I come to rely more on heavenly grace?

Page 8 St. Pius X Church February 6, 2022 Pope Pius X was known for his firm demeanor and sense of personal poverty, reflected by his membership of the Third Order of Saint Francis. He regularly gave sermons from the pulpit, a rare practice at the time. After the 1908 Messina earthquake he filled the Apostolic Palace with refugees, long before the Italian government acted. He rejected any kind of favours for his family; his close relatives chose to remain in poverty, living near Rome.
After his death, a strong cult of devotion followed his reputation for piety and holiness. He was beatified in 1951 and was canonized on 29 May 1954.[8] The traditionalist Catholic Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X is named in his honour, while a statue bearing his name stands within St. Peter's Basilica; and his birth town was renamed Riese Pio X after his death.
Pope Pius X quotes and sayings:
“If there were one million families praying the Rosary every day, the entire world would be saved.”
“Holy Communion is the shortest and safest way to Heaven. There are others: innocence, but that is for little children;
penance, but we are afraid of it; generous endurance of trials of life, but when they come we weep and ask to be. The surest, easiest, shortest way is the Eucharist.”
C
O L S J L St. Pius X held a daily novena in honor of Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos from January 25 and culminated on February 2 which is Her actual Feast Day with a Holy Eucharist and blessings of the candles and sacred images. It was followed by a procession of Her statue from the Church to the newly built grotto in the patio which will be Her permanent place of worship.
Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos is the patrones of Good Health and Good Decisions.
We thank you all for your participation in the preparation and celebration of this special occasion. We also thank you for your donations for the building of the grotto.
