The Redemptorists
Each Christmas we sing the famous English Christmas carol “OLittle Town of Bethlehem”. There is one verse in the hymn which always grabs my attention: “The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight”. The hymn speaks of the dark streets of Bethlehem and how the bright light of Christ shines to shatter the darkness of those streets. Then the hymn tells us that all the fears and all the hopes of people both before and after the birth of Christ were found in the one night in Beth-lehem.
We live in an age of such great hope and promise but also an age of fear and hopeless-ness. It is an age when environmental disaster is upon us but nations have the power to save our planet. We live in a country of great wealth yet so many are homeless and hun-gry. We are a country that can do so much but is unable to because of so much anger and division. On that first Christmas night in the manger, all the hopes and fears of the world were found. The richness of God’s divinity embraced the poverty of our human nature. The infinite love of God entered a divided and angry world. On that first Christ-mas, the sinless God entered our sinful world and gave us the gift of redemption. As we continue our celebration of the Christmas season, we affirm that we will not surrender to the hopeless, the anger, and division of our world and country. We profess faith in the God who embraced our humanity with all its hopes and fears, a God who leads us from hopeless to hope, from division to unity, from anger to peace, from inaction to action. Truly, the hopes and fears of all the years are met in Christ born among us.

MASS INTENTIONS
FROM THE RECTOR
En Español
Cada Navidad cantamos el famoso villancico inglés “O Little Town of Bethlehem”.

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man,
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Reflection
“Wives, be subordinate to your husbands…Husbands, love your wives… Children, obey your parents in everything…Fathers, do not provoke your children…” (Colossians 3:18-21)
Pope Francis said that families, through their life of prayer and love, be-come “schools of true human growth.” Being credible witnesses of Chris-tian love, especially that of family members, exerts the most positive influ-ence on our children. We are all children of God, let us pray and love each other as God, Our Father, does for us.
