Dear Families:
Last Thursday, May 26th was the day of the Lord's Ascension (40 days a er His resurrec on). For pastoral reasons and for the good of the faithful, our Diocese transferred the celebra on to this Sunday.
The Ascension of the Lord in the sight of His disciples marks the end of the appari ons. Jesus instructs them to remain together for a few days wai ng for His gi to the world: The Holy Spirit, the event to be celebrated next Sunday.
Those first disciples are no longer what they were when Christ had died on the cross and the first days of the resurrec on; they now feel confident of Jesus, their faith is absolute certainty that Jesus lives and that they are called to a mission in the world.
At this me, the disciples had been instructed by Jesus as to what awaited them. They would no longer be fishermen by trade, but rather fishers of men for the Kingdom of God. They are called to a mission, the fulfillment of which will require the power of the Spirit. A voice tells them to stop looking at the sky and go into the world to complete their career. Jesus warned them that they would be persecuted and killed, and that their lives will be like the grain of wheat that falls into the earth and bears much fruit. He makes them see that a feast awaits them in the Father's house:
that is the new and defini ve life to which we are called. They must fight for this life and help everyone win it.
Here we are now among fears and apprehension, o en forge ng that God has promised us a full life in the pursuit of this mission. I always say that this life of ours now only makes sense if we allow the Spirit to guide us to the discovery of eternal values, along the way. Certainly, there are challenges at every turn, not only in living and celebra ng our faith as a community, but also in exercising that faith in the bosom of your family, to inculcate that faith into the lives of your children. There is no excuse for not praying to God; for not speaking to the children of God's love. There is me if you turn off the TV and put down the cell phone. Then you can talk with your children about how they can find God in the world.
Then, on Sunday, you can join your faith community in the church, and enjoy the fellowship of those friends and neighbors who think and feel like you do.
We should not, however, fall into the tempta on of a ending to God only when we are in Church, or even worse, succumbing to any tempta on to dri away from the church, feeling that you do not need, and cannot benefit from the synergy of the faith community, as you express your faith in God.
The apostles personally and individually received the joy of the peace and presence of Jesus, but they experienced this most fully when in community with each other. Let us not forget this fundamental fact in the life of the Church.
May Jesus be the friend of our children, and the heart that beats in our homes.
May God bless you,
Father Celestino, Pastor
Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord May 29, 2022
: Acts 1:1-11; Ephesians 1:17-23; Luke 24:46-53 Psalm 47
Solemnidad de La Ascensión del Señor 29 de Mayo del 2022
Hechos 1:1-11; Efesios 1:17-23; Lucas 24:46-53 Salmo 47 [46]
Queridas familias:

“The Lord says to us, ‘Do not fear: I am with you’ (Isaiah 41:10). He speaks these words not as one who merely observes our pain, but as one who experienced immense suffering. And the very wounds that bear witness to his suffering indicate the essence of our iden ty and worth: we are loved by God. Reflec ng on the healed wounds of the Risen Christ, we see that even our most difficult trials can be the place where God manifests his victory. He makes all things beau ful.
He makes all things new.”
