El miércoles de ceniza, 17 de febrero de 2021, marca el comienzo del tiempo de Cuaresma. Para evitar el contacto debido a la pandemia, la Congregación para el Culto Divino y los Sacramentos del Vaticano ha pedido que se esparzan cenizas en la parte superior (corona) de las cabezas de las personas en lugar de usarlas para hacer una cruz en la frente de las personas. Esto ha sido la costumbre antes de la pandemia en varios países como Italia. Al acercarse al sacerdote con la mascarilla sobre la boca y la nariz, como se hace para la Sagrada Comunión, inclinará la cabeza y le rociarán cenizas. La inscripción para las Misas del miércoles de ceniza se enviará a través de Flocknote el domingo 14 de febrero o llamando a la oficina parroquial a partir del lunes 15 de febrero.

ASH WEDNESDAY Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2021 marks the beginning of the Lenten Season. In order to avoid contact due to the pandemic, the Vatican Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments has asked that ashes be sprinkled on the top (crown) of people's heads rather than using them to make a cross on people's
foreheads. This has been the custom before the pandemic in several countries like Italy. As you approach the priest with your face mask placed over your mouth and nose, as done for Holy Communion, you will bow your head wherein ashes will be sprinkled on your head. Sign up for Masses on Ash Wednesday will be sent via Flocknote on Sunday, February 14th or by calling the parish office starting on Monday, February 15th. Fridays during the Lenten Season at 7:00 PM in St. Louis Church The Stations of the Cross is to help the faithful to make in spirit, as it were, a pilgrimage to the major scenes of Christ's sufferings and death. Instead of passing from Station to Station inside the church, we will ask that everyone stay in their pew—socially distant and with a face mask—while we pray and meditate on each station.
Stations of the Cross will be bilingual (English/Spanish).

The parish Knights of Columbus council is sponsoring an essay contest for youth of the parish in grades 8-12. The topic for the essay is, "Discuss how trusting in God during a difficult time has helped you or someone you know find the strength and hope to endure it." Essays must be between 500 and 750 words and must be submitted by March 1. Two winners will be named, one for grades 8-9 and one for grades 10-12. Parents or guardians of interested youth contestants should contact john.m.anderson@aya.yale.edu for an entry form and additional information.

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence from meat for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence from meat. The norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon Catholics from age 14 onwards.
THOSE OUTSIDE THE AGE LIMITS and those whose state in life (e.g. pregnant women, manual laborers, those who are ill) may be excused from the requirements of fasting and abstinence from meat, but are encouraged to take up some other form of penitence or acts of charity or piety.
PLEASE NOTE: These guidelines are the minimum requirements for Lenten sacrifices. All are encouraged to impose some sort of personal penance or act of charity or piety on top of these minimums. You could increase the number of days you practice fasting/and or abstinence from meat, or abstain from a favorite food or activity for all of Lent. You could add things, such as committing to read the Bible for 20 minutes a day or Adoring our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament. As in all things, Lenten penance and mortification calls for prudence.
