We will continue with our Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on First Fridays

beginning at the 7:30 am Mass, Benediction

at 12:00 pm, and Adoration until the 5:00 pm Mass.

St. Martin Parish marked the end of its Centennial with a beautiful Mass and a wonderful Reception last Saturday, November 12. As the liturgy began, the assembly sang “Gather Your People” while the church bell rang 10 times, once for each decade of St. Martin’s existence as a parish. Bishop Patrick J. McGrath presided at the liturgy filled with parishioners from different cultures, members of the local clergy, and religious sisters who were serving at St. Martin’s Parish or School at different points in the past fifty years. While the Centennial Opening Mass last November honored long-time parishioners, the attention of this Centennial Closing Liturgy was on young members, including catechetical children, students from the Catholic Academy of Sunnyvale, and others. The choir with members from different ethnic groups lead the singing of uplifting and prayerful songs in different languages.

The solemn liturgy was followed by a wonderful reception in the parish hall with food from different cultures, the interaction between participants, a video presentation of the history of St. Martin, and stories by Sisters of St. Joseph of Kansas, who were at St. Martin’s School decades ago, and by Sr. Patrice Underwood, who served the Parish for four decades as a pastoral associate.

After this official, liturgical conclusion of the Centennial, however, we will continue to celebrate our “Century of Faith and Service” with some more events: the Centennial Quilt made by several groups and

individuals, the Time Capsule, and the New Year’s Eve celebration. The Parish Centennial Directory, which is due around spring 2017, will capture what we celebrate this special year.

We thank all volunteers who made this possible: the Parish Centennial Committee for the overall planning, preparations in this year-long celebration; the Liturgy Committee, the combined Choir (coordinated by Alexis Rambac), June Moroney for housing our Sisters of St. Joseph of Kansas, other ministers (Altar Society, sacristans, lectors, communion ministers, ushers, altar servers, etc.) for the beautiful liturgy; and the Centennial Closing Reception Subcommittee (coordinated by Moria Kang) as well as all our enthusiastic volunteers. God bless you all for your service to our community of faith.

Saints in the City…

Youths from across the Diocese of San Jose gathered at St. Lawrence

the Martyr Parish, Santa Clara, on Nov. 10 to honor several young

people who are active in parishes and Catholic schools. The gathering

is called “Saints in the City: Honoring Young Disciples.”

At this gathering, Alexis Rambac, a dedicated catechist and music

minister of St. Martin, received the St. Maria Goretti Award for

giving herself freely and generously in service of our community.

Last year, at the inaugural Saints in the City gathering, held at our St.

Martin Parish, Vy Hoang Cao, a committed catechist’s aide, received

her St. Francis of Assisi Award for her spirit of outreach and joy.

The Jubilee of Mercy will officially end today, Nov.

20, the Solemnity of Christ the King, when Pope

Francis closes the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica.

But “God’s mercy endures for ever” (Psalm 136).

Los Guadalupanos los invitan a rezar el Rosario cada Miércoles a las 7 en la noche en la capilla.

La parroquia de San Martín marcó el final de su centenario con una hermosa misa y una maravillosa recepción el sábado 12 de noviembre. A medida que la liturgia comenzó, la asamblea cantó "Reúna a su pueblo", mientras que la campana de la iglesia sonó 10 veces, una vez por cada década de La existencia de San Martín como parroquia. El obispo Patrick J. McGrath presidió la liturgia llena de parroquianos de diferentes culturas, miembros del clero local y religiosas que estaban sirviendo en la parroquia o escuela de San Martín en diferentes puntos en los últimos cincuenta años.Mientras que la misa de inauguración del centenario en noviembre pasado honró a los feligreses de largo plazo, la atención de esta liturgia de clausura del centenario fue sobre los miembros jóvenes, incluyendo niños catequéticos, estudiantes de la Academia Católica de Sunnyvale y otros. El coro con miembros de diferentes grupos étnicos conduce el canto de canciones edificantes y orantes en diferentes idiomas.

A la solemne liturgia le siguió una maravillosa recepción en el salón parroquial con comida de diferentes culturas, la interacción entre los participantes, un vídeo de la historia de San Martín, y las historias de las Hermanas de San José de Kansas, que estuvieron en St La Escuela de Martin hace décadas y el Sr. Patrice Underwood, quien sirvió a la Parroquia durante cuatro décadas como aso-ciado pastoral.

Sin embargo, después de esta conclusión oficial y litúrgica del Centenario, seguiremos celebrando nuestro "Siglo de Fe y Servicio" con algunos eventos más: la Edredón Centenario hecha por varios grupos e individuos, la Cápsula del Tiempo y la celebración de Año Nuevo . El Directorio Centenario de la parroquia, que se espera para la primavera de 2017, captará lo que celebramos este año especial.

Damos las gracias a todos los voluntarios que hicieron posible esto: el Comité del Centenario de la Parroquia para la planificación general, los preparativos en esta celebración de un año de duración; El Comité de Liturgia, el Coro combinado (coordinado por Alexis Rambac), otros ministros (Sociedad del Altar, sacristanes, lectores, ministros de comunión, ujieres, servidores de altar, etc.) para la hermosa liturgia; Y el Subcomité Centenario de Recepción de Cierre (coordinado por Moria Kang), así como a todos nuestros voluntarios entusiastas. Dios los bendiga a todos por su servicio a nuestra comunidad de fe.

Santos en la ciudad ...

Jóvenes de toda la Diócesis de San José se reunieron en la parroquia de San Lorenzo, los Mártires, Santa Clara, el 10 de noviembre para honrar a varios jóvenes que están activos en parroquias y escuelas católicas. La reunión se llama "Los santos en la ciudad: Honrar a los jóvenes discípulos".

En esta reunión, Alexis Rambac, dedicado catequista y ministro de música de San Martín, recibió el Premio Santa Maria Goretti por

Dándose libre y generosamente en el servicio de nuestra comunidad.

El año pasado, en la reunión inaugural de los Santos en la Ciudad, celebrada en nuestra parroquia de San Martín, Vy Hoang Cao, asistente de un catequista

comprometido, recibió su Premio San Francisco de Asís por su espíritu de alcance y alegría.

El Jubileo de la Misericordia terminará oficialmente hoy, 20

de noviembre, la solemnidad de Cristo Rey, cuando el Papa

Francisco cierra la Puerta Santa en la Basílica de San Pedro.

Giáo xứ St. Martin kết thúc năm Bách Niên với một Thánh lễ trọng thế và buổi tiếp tân tối ngày thứ Bảy tuấn trước, 12 tháng 11. Thánh lễ bắt đầu với một bài thánh ca, trong khi chuông nhà thờ ngân vang, gióng lên 10 tiếng, tượng trưng cho 10 thập niên, hay một thế kỷ của xứ đạo. Đức Cha McGrath chủ sự Thánh lễ

với sự tham gia đông đảo của giáo hữu thuộc nhiều văn hóa, các linh mục, và một số nữ tu từng phục vụ tại xứ đạo hoặc trường học vào những thời điểm khác nhau trong 50 năm qua.

Lễ khai mạc năm ngoái vinh danh những người là thành viên lâu đời của xứ đạo. Còn Thánh lễ bế mạc năm nay chú ý đến thế hệ trẻ, trong đó có các em đang học giáo lý, và học sinh của Catholic Academy of Sunnyvale. Thánh lễ được thêm sốt sắng nhờ lời hát của ca đoàn tổng hợp với những bài thánh ca bằng các thứ tiếng Anh, Mễ, Phi, và tiếng Việt.

Sau Thánh lễ là buổi tiếp tân tưng bừng tại hội trường, với đồ ăn của các sắc dân, trò chuyện giữa những người tham dự, video trình bày lịch sử xứ đạo, và những câu chuyện do các nữ tu kể lại về thời gian giúp xứ đạo hoặc trường học.

Tuy Thánh lễ ngày 12 tháng 11 chính thức bế mạc năm Bách Niên, chúng ta sẽ tiếp tục mừng xứ đạo “tròn một Thế kỷ trong Đức tin và Phục vụ” qua:

- Centennial Quilt (tấm vải bao gồm nhiều bức tranh), - Time Capsule (hộp đựng những kỷ vật dành cho thế hệ giáo dân 50 năm, 100 năm sau), và

- Đêm đón chào năm mới dương lịch (New Year’s Eve).

Giáo xứ chân thành cám ơn tất cả những ai đã góp phần

giúp việc tổ chức được tốt đẹp: Ủy ban Bách niên Giáo xứ, Ủy ban Phụng vụ, Ca đoàn tổng hợp, những người giúp trong phụng vụ (ban trang trí, những người dọn lễ, đọc sách thánh, cho rước lễ, quyên tiền, giúp lễ…), Tiểu ban Tiếp tân, và rất nhiều người đã cộng tác dưới nhiều hình thức. Xin Thiên Chúa ban phúc lành cho tất cả.

Ngày lễ Tạ ơn (Thanksgiving Day) sẽ có một Thánh lễ duy nhất, đa ngôn ngữ, vào lúc 10 giờ sáng. Kính mời quý ông bà, anh chị em tham dự.

Tại Thánh lễ bổn mạng Đoàn TNTT Martino ngày 6 tháng 11 vừa qua đã có nghi thức tuyên hứa cho tân Ban thường vụ Đoàn, với đoàn trưởng là anh Vũ Hiến Hoan. Chúc mừng tân đoàn trưởng và Ban thường vụ mới! Cám ơn anh Nguyễn Thanh Tùng và Ban thường vụ cũ đã tận tình lo cho Đoàn TNTT.

KINGSHIP

The book of Samuel recounts for us to-day the anointing of David as king of Israel. It was the elders of Israel who declared David king that day, but it was God who called David to shepherd Isra-el. Thus mandated by the citizens of his kingdom and by his God, David took his place in a long line of kings.

The apostle Paul speaks to us of king-ship as well, but on a much higher plane: the kingship of Jesus our Lord. As great as David was, he and all earthly mon-archs who came before and after him in their kingdoms around the world are minor kings by comparison to the true King. And lastly, we hear the story of that true King in perhaps his weakest moment: near death, hanging on a cross, taunted by a common criminal and by the world at large.

El libro de Samuel nos relata la unción de David como rey de Israel. Fueron los ancianos de Israel quienes declararon a David como rey ese día, pero fue Dios quien llamó a David para que pastoreara a Israel. El apóstol Pablo también nos habla de realeza, pero en un plano muy superior: la realeza de Jesús nuestro Señor.
