Second Sunday in Ordinary Time (C) January 16, 2022

Reading I: Isaiah 62:1-5

Responsorial Psalm: 96:1-2,2-3,7-8, 9-10

Reading II: 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 Gospel: John 2:1-11

Theme: “And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from:

... you have kept the good wine until now” (Gospel).

“Do whatever he tells you,” Mary tells the servants. It is a wedding and the wine is running out. It should not happen, and must be quickly addressed. If it the wine runs out, wedding party is over and the family will be embarrassed. They have a solution;

consult Mary, the mother of Jesus. She can do something and her faith provides calm instead of panic.

The wedding went smooth and life goes on, and many did not even notice the problem especially those who enjoyed the best wine in their lives.

In the gospel of John, the turning of water into wine is the first of the eight signs if we include Jesus’

resurrection. John’s gospel is often referred to as the book of signs. The signs are changing water into wine at the wedding at Cana (2:1-11); Healing the royal official’s son (4:46-54); Healing the paralyzed man at the pool of Bethesda in Jerusalem (5:1-15); Feeding the 5,000 (6:5-14); Walking on water (6:16-21); Healing the man born blind (9:1-7); and Raising Lazarus from the dead (11:1-45). I am sure that there are more signs than what is enumerated here but definitely enough to convince even the most cynical person. As the author himself puts it, “Many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you might have life through his name” (John 20:30-31).

Faith in Jesus is everything in John’s gospel.

Just open your mind; the signs give us all the reason for believing. God is the provider of all things, especially all the good things around us. Faith in God connects us to the ultimate source of everything even the food we eat and the wine we drink, and that is why we need to say grace before we gather for a meal. “Do not bite the hand that feeds you,” so they say.

Let us pray: Almighty God, strengthen us in faith, as we acknowledge your blessings we receive, life and salvation in Jesus Christ your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever, Amen.

Segundo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario (C)

16 de enero de 2022

Lectura I: Isaías 62:1-5

Salmo Responsorial: 96:1-2,2-3,7-8,9-10 Lectura II: 1 Corintios 12:4-11

Evangelio: Juan 2:1-11

Tema: “Y cuando el maestresala probó el agua convertida en vino, sin saber de dónde era: … has guardado el buen vino hasta ahora” (Evangelio).

“Hagan lo que él les diga”, les dice María a los sirvientes. Es una boda y el vino se está acabando. No debería suceder, y debe abordarse rápidamente. Si se acaba el vino, la fiesta de bodas habrá terminado y la familia se avergonzará. Ellos tienen una solución;

En el evangelio de Juan, la conversión del agua en vino es la primera de las ocho señales si incluimos la resurrección de Jesús. El evangelio de Juan a menudo se conoce como el libro de las señales. Las señales están cambiando el agua en vino en las bodas de Caná (2:1-11);

Parish Mission Statement: To unite our Parish family to grow in faith, love, and charity as we become active stewards in our church and community.

Pastoral Reflection

By Regina Robledo, Pastoral Council Member

Words of wisdom from Our Blessed Mother, His mother said to the servers, “Do whatever He tells you”

John 2:5.

As we enter into a new church year, Mary of Nazareth, the persistent guest at Cana, urges us to believe that the hour has come. The hour has come for us to believe that the reign of God can be palpable in our midst. The hour has come for us to listen to the urgings of the Spirit.

The hour has come for all of us to be coworkers with God and listen to the Gospel and look at Christ and do whatever he tells us. Then we will know the joy God intends for humanity.

Jesus I Trust in You

Parish Projects Updates 2022

1. Church Renovation:

a. Altar - Ruben Guerra will be finalizing the details with the chosen contractor by this month January.

b. Pews - the final design and measurements of pews were already picked and will be submitted this week. 30% down payment was made sometime back and the projected delivery and installation will be the month of May 2022.

2. Parking Lot Repair - Harry Perez is receiving and evaluating bids. You may also submit contractors if you know any. The budget is 30k (proceeds from the Dec. 2021 Raffle). The area of the Parking Lot repair is focused on the potholes and School Awning where water retains when it rains. If the budget allows, re-finishing of the whole parking lot (big parking lot left side of the Church, front of the Parish office will also be fixed). We look for the Spring Break time to do and execute the Project.

3. The Grotto Mosaic - The Mosaic arrived last month, and it is ready to be installed. Architect Jayme Camero is in charged to commission the installers. We look forward to hear from him and execute the project.

4. The Priest House bathroom: The bath is being remodeled to make it safer for Msgr. Alfaro. The bath tub is replaced with a safer shower space. We thank John Nava for donating his winning ($1,000.00) for the project). We thank Msgr. Alfaro for donating his winning as well ($1,000.00) for the Parish Endowment.
