Practicing Faith
I’d like to make some new resolutions about practicing the faith in our family during the new year. Do you have any
suggestions?
The family is the most essential space for the formation of values and character. Practicing your faith as a family can happen both internal- ly and externally. Consistent prayer together builds habits that can last a lifetime. With younger children, praying together as a family in the evening or at dinnertime could be fairly doable most nights. In the evening, select a few common prayers such as the Our Father, Hail Mary, or Guardian Angel prayer. Ask each of your children to thank God for three things that day and include a time for children and adults alike to pray out loud for special needs in your family. This practice could be done with older children, committed to intentional efforts in the midst of increasingly busy schedules.
Look for other opportunities to practice the faith outside the home as well. Sunday Mass should already be part of your family’s weekly routine. Consider setting other monthly goals as well. This could be a family service project in your city, attending the sacrament of Confes- sion together, or hosting a hospitality night in your home. Get your children involved in the planning process. Ask them where they’d like to volunteer or who they think is having a hard time and might need a special night just for them. Rather than simply imposing new practic- es, your whole family can have a dynamic role understanding and integrating faith and life.

Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, it
was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven;
my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
- Jn 6:32-33
- Jn 6, 32-33

An Obedient Father
As he had done with Mary, God revealed his saving plan to Joseph. He did so by using dreams, which in the Bible and among all ancient peoples, were considered a way for him to make his will known. Joseph was deeply trou- bled by Mary’s mysterious pregnancy. He did not want to
“expose her to public disgrace”, so he decided to “dismiss her quietly” (Mt 1:19). In every situation, Joseph declared his own “fiat”, like those of Mary at the Annunciation and Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. In his role as the head of a family, Joseph taught Jesus to be obedient to his parents (cf. Lk 2:51), in accordance with God’s com- mand (cf. Ex 20:12).
During the hidden years in Nazareth, Jesus learned at the school of Joseph to do the will of the Father. That will was to be his daily food (cf. Jn 4:34). Even at the most difficult moment of his life, in Gethsemane, Jesus chose to do the Father’s will rather than his own, becoming “obedient un- to death, even death on a cross” (Phil 2:8). The author of the Letter to the Hebrews thus concludes that Jesus
“learned obedience through what he suffered” (5:8). All this makes it clear that “Saint Joseph was called by God to serve the person and mission of Jesus directly through the exercise of his fatherhood” and that in this way, “he cooperated in the fullness of time in the great mystery of salvation and is truly a minister of salvation.”
«aprendió sufriendo a obedecer» (5,8).

Physician-Assisted Suicide Proponents Aim to Remove
“Safeguards”
Despite our efforts, SB 380 passed out of the Assembly Judiciary committee:
6 Yes, 2 No, and 4 Abstain
The bill is now headed to the Appropriations Committee. If passed, SB 380 will allow pa- tients access to life-ending drugs without time for intervention or additional care. This bill eliminates the minimal “safeguards” cur- rently existing in the End of Life Option Act.
Defend life by opposing SB 380.
SB 380 seeks to:
•
Prematurely end the existing 2026 sunset date and legislative reevaluation option years early with no data to support this action.
•
Replace the current 15-day waiting- period with a 48-hours waiting period.
