What Am I?

You are likely to find one or more of me in most any home or office. I am built for convenience, allowing you to relax while I do the work.

In my earliest days, I worked by using sound waves beyond the range of human hearing. Today, I work by shooting out infrared pulses to my compatible devices. I am even considered smart! You can talk to me to get me to work. Regardless of how I work, you’ll find you can’t live without me, so don’t lose me in the couch cushions. What am I?

Why Didn’t I Think of That?

The history of glue is a sticky subject. After all, people have been using adhesives for thousands of years, from tree sap to tars.

But the white liquid glue that most people think of today was developed by the Borden Company in 1947.

Prior to this, glue was pasty,

permanent, and smelled bad because it was made with fish byproducts.

Elmer’s glue went on white, dried clear, and could be cleaned off school desks. The Borden company was a dairy company, and the prime ingredient in the glue was a dairy protein. Elmer was the advertising mate to Elsie, the milk spokescow.

Today is

Retro Day. Indulge your love of the “good old days” with a little nostalgia. While fashion from the ’60s and ’70s has made a comeback, suddenly fashion from the 2000s, like skirts over pants, is considered retro and hip.
