Today, backup cameras are a standard feature in all cars, but the very first backup car camera was used in a 1956 Buick Centurion concept car. The Centurion employed a rear-mounted television camera to deliver a live picture to a TV mounted in the dash. Fifty years later, Toyota added a reversing camera to its 1991 Soarer Limited, a model available only in Japan. In 2002, Nissan and its Infinity brand began offering rearview cameras in its standard models. These days, many cars also have side and front- view cameras.
