Treat her like your own flesh!
Last Sunday the gospel tells us that the man and woman met and recognized each other. The look did not stop in the eyes. It reached the heart. Then began a story that lasts to this day. Both felt called to form one flesh, not only in order to procreate, but, further, to live united in love and thus become a sign of the love with which God loves us.
But reality has not always been that way throughout history. The reality is that man has mistreated women many times. For centu- ries, man has not considered woman as his equal. Man has felt dominating and has seen woman as one of his belongings, one of the objects at his disposal.
Jesus invites us in his Gospel to go back to the same creation. To realize that at first it was not like that. God created equal men and women. They are meat of the same flesh. That's why a woman can not be another possession of a man like someone who has a car or a house. In the first reading, we hear how man receives the order of God to name animals. And he does, but he realizes that they are not at his level. They are animals, not people. It is when meeting the woman, formed from himself, when he says: This is indeed bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh! In women, men recognize themselves and in men, women recognize themselves.
Both need each other to father children but also to be happy, to live in the fullness of the love to which God has called us.
Today there are so many divorces, that the family seems to be in crisis. Jesus invites us to return to the beginning, to rediscover the original will of God and to try to make it a reality in each of our families. In this way each marriage, each family, will become a sign of the love with which God loves us all, a nucleus where life is recreated daily in love.
Fr. Jeff
Dios creó a hombres y mujeres iguales.
Padre Jeff
