SANTA CATALINA DE SIENA

(1347-1380)

RESPONDING TO THE CALL

Do we truly know the voice of Christ? Do we truly re-spond to the voice of our shepherd with our own distinctive voice? How often we attempt to imitate those around us, appropriating the response of another member of the flock to Christ. Perhaps we need to balance the image of being sheep of one flock with the image from the second reading, which tells us that we are all children of God. What child has pre-cisely the same interaction with parents as his or her sib-lings? Instead, they frequently do and say things to distin-guish themselves in the eyes of their parents.

Whether we use the image of children or of sheep to understand our relationship with Christ, we believe that we are all known and called by name. With this great gift comes a responsibility: to respond to the call with our own distinc-tive voice, to take time to discern exactly what our call is, to determine precisely what the will of the Father is for each of us. UPCOMING SACRAMENTS

Please pray for our young parishioners who will be receiving their Sacraments:

May 1—1st Communion (English) May 6– Confirmation (English) May 15—1st Reconciliation (Spanish) May 22– 1st Communion (Spanish) May 29 Confirmation (Spanish)

May 1st is the feast of St. Joseph the worker, established by Pope Pius XII in 1955. While not the primary celebration of St. Joseph, this feast allows us to celebrate St. Joseph in a way that we can all relate to him —as workers.

St. Joseph, model of the dignity of human work, pray for us! St. Pamphilus, pray for us. St. Catherine, pray for us.
