St. Scholastica, pray for us.
Born to Roman nobles in Nursia of Umbria, Italy, St. Scholastica was the twin sister of Saint Benedict, whose rule gave birth to Western monasticism.
“Scholastica” means “the learned one,”
and tradition suggests that Scholastica preceded her brother in a life of prayer.
It is said that at their last meeting, outside the walls of the monastery, her prayers brought down torrential rains that forced Benedict to stay with her in holy conversation. She died in 542, and Benedict buried her in the tomb that had been prepared for him.

Rich Schenk at 412-260-0349, Joe Costanzo at 412-608-4796 or Rick Arzenti 412-638-0795 The Pontifical Council for Justice and
Peace and the International Union of Superiors General has designated February 8 as an annual day of prayer and awareness against human trafficking. Febr uary 8 is the feast day of St. Josephine Bakhita, who was kidnapped as a child and sold into slavery in Sudan and Italy. Once Josephine
was freed, she became a Canossian nun and dedicated her life to sharing her testament of deliverance from slavery and comforting the poor and suffering. She was declared a Saint in 2000. On February 8, Catholics all over the world are encouraged to host or attend prayer services to create greater awareness about this phenomenon. Through prayer, we not only reflect on the experiences of those that have suffered through this affront to human dignity, but also comfort, strengthen, and help empower survivors.
St. Josephine Bakhita, pray for us.

THE GLOBAL SYNOD:
The global synod: Journeying praying and worshiping together We can only “journey together” toward the kingdom of God if we pray and worship and receive the sacraments together. For the synod, Pope Francis
asks us to consider how prayer and liturgy inspire and direct our journey. How does each baptized Christian follow God as an individual while remaining true to the community? How do we as individuals and communities discern God’s call to us? These questions will be part of synodal sessions throughout the Diocese of Pittsburgh in early 2022. For more information text “Synod2021" to 84576 and go to www.diopitt.org/journeying-together to download your Participant Guide. The Participant Guide can also be found on the main page of our parish website.
PARISH SYNOD MEETING
Our Parish will be holding two opportunities to gather to focus on the Synod called for by Pope Francis. These sessions are for us to have some input of what the Spirit is speaking to us for the good of the Church. Please pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you. The sessions will be held:
•
Thursday February 24 at SPX Hall from 6:30-8:30PM
•
Saturday, February 26 at SCS Hall from 12:30-2:30PM
Please plan on attending one of these if possible.
Questions to ponder will be found shortly on our website.

Page Seven THEOPHANIES Today’s readings recount three
theophanies, or particular manifestations of God’s presence. The prophet Isaiah is caught up in a dramatic scene of heavenly worship, with a royal throne, burning embers, and seraphim singing, “Holy, holy, holy.” Isaiah is overwhelmed. In the responsorial psalm, the assembly adds its own worship to that of the seraphim: “In the sight of the angels, I will sing your praises, Lord” (Psalm 138:1).
Paul reminds the Corinthians of his own experience of a post-Resurrection appearance of the Lord, making him an apostle, but one “born abnormally” (1 Corinthians 15:8), since he had no acquaintance with the earthly Jesus. The first of those who did know the earthly Jesus were surprised by fishing advice from the teacher who had commandeered Simon’s boat, resulting in an extraordinary catch. Although less colorful than those of Isaiah or Paul, this theophany was just as overwhelming.
