OBSTACLES
The prophet Ezekiel, Saint Paul, and the Lord Jesus share something in common in today's scripture readings. They all experience obstacles to their min-istry. Ezekiel is summoned to prophesy to the Israel-ites, who are "[h]ard of face and obstinate of
heart" (Ezekiel 2:4). Saint Paul recounts how he has been given a "thorn in the flesh" (2 Corinthians 12:7). The Lord Jesus is unable to perform many signs in his native place. The Gospel tells us that "[he] was amazed at their lack of faith" (Mark 6:6). We too sometimes encounter obstacles as we travel along the journey of faith. So often we experience weakness on this journey. Let the words of the Lord to Saint Paul encourage us today: "My grace is suffi-cient for you, for power is made perfect in weak-ness" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

UATEMALAOn June 3, 2018 devastation struck just 30 miles southwest of Guatemala City when the Volcán de Fuego erupted resulting in approximately 114 deaths, 200 missing persons and close to 3 thou-sand displaced persons from destroyed homes. The volcano is generating currents of hot gas of 1,000 degrees in temperature. On top of these terrifying statistics, the volcano has been producing gas and ash eruptions, which make search and rescue ef-forts extremely dangerous. During this time, Guate-mala is in solemn need of our prayers and support as they face such devastating loss within their com-munity.

Rules about politeness seem to be in contradiction to the rules we teach children about avoiding predators and responding to behaviors that make them uncomfortable.
