Open your bible and read it. I frequently encourage you to read the Word of God. The bible can be intimidating. People often say, “I don’t know where to start.” Or “It’s too
confusing.” I recommend that you begin with the Letter of St.
Paul to the Philippians. It only has four chapters. All four chapters have a total of 104 verses. You can read it in 30 minutes, and you can spend your whole life learning from it. In this letter St. Paul covers all the basics of our faith. In this letter we find doctrine, inspiration and encouragement. When I read this letter it fills my heart with hope.
Consider these words: “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

Abre tu biblia y léela. Con frecuencia los animo a leer la Palabra de Dios. La Biblia puede ser intimidante. La gente suele decir: "No sé por dónde empezar". O "Es demasiado confuso". Te recomiendo que comiences con la Carta de San Pablo a los Filipenses. Solo tiene cuatro capítulos. Los cuatro capítulos tienen un total de 104 versículos. Puedes leerlo en 30 minutos y puedes pasar toda tu vida aprendiendo de él. En esta carta San Pablo cubre todos los fundamentos de nuestra fe. En esta carta encontramos doctrina, inspiración y aliento. Cuando leo esta carta, mi corazón se llena de esperanza.
Considera estas palabras: “Todo lo que es verdadero, todo lo que es honorable, todo lo que es justo, todo lo que es puro, todo lo que es amable, todo lo que es misericordioso, y si hay alguna excelencia y si hay algo digno de alabanza, piensen en esto”.

Fruitless Trees
Ex 3:1-8A, 13-15/1 Cor 10:1-6, 10-12 / Lk 13:1-9
A seemingly minor player in today’s Gospel is the fig tree that does not bear fruit. The owner of the orchard wants to cut it down because it is exhausting the soil. The gardener, however, asks for the opportunity to give the tree special attention, to cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it. This, brothers and sisters, is discipleship! We are
surrounded by fruitless fig trees…some of us may even BE the fruitless tree! Discipleship does not mean we stand and stare and complain about a tree’s lack of fruit. It doesn’t mean grumbling about the way it is exhausting the soil.
Discipleship means helping that fig tree thrive by caring for it. Like the gardener, we have to get our hands dirty as we nurture the tree and help it bear fruit. This means praying for and with one another, going to Mass together, and discovering the unique “fruits” God has placed within each of us. Just as the fig tree cannot fertilize itself, neither can we alone sustain ourselves. Discipleship means recognizing others as gift and supporting one another.

Árboles sin fruto
Ex 3:1-8A, 13-15/1 Cor 10:1-6, 10-12 / Lc 13:1-9
Un elemento en apariencia poco importante en el Evangelio de hoy es la higuera que no da fruto. El dueño del viñedo quiere cortarla porque está agotando la tierra. Sin embargo, el viñador pide la oportunidad de prestar al árbol una atención especial, de cultivar la tierra a su alrededor y de abonarla.
¡Esto, hermanos y hermanas, es el discipulado! Estamos rodeados de higueras infructuosas… incluso algunos de nosotros podemos SER el árbol infructuoso. El discipulado no significa que nos quedemos mirando y quejándonos de un árbol que no da fruto. No significa refunfuñar por la forma en que está agotando la tierra. El discipulado significa ayudar a esa higuera a prosperar cuidándola. Al igual que el viñador, tenemos que ensuciarnos las manos para nutrir el árbol y ayudarlo a dar fruto. Esto significa orar por y con los demás, acudir juntos a la misa y descubrir los “frutos” únicos que Dios nos ha concedido. Del mismo modo que la higuera no puede abonarse a sí misma, tampoco nosotros podemos sostenernos solos. El discipulado significa reconocer el don que son los demás y apoyarnos mutuamente.
