22nd Sunday Ordinary Time ~ We have many expressions like: “It’s what’s inside that really counts;” and “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” Essentially they are saying the same thing. What comes from the deepest inner part of a person or thing is what is most true and most important. In the Jewish Scriptures the law was sacred. It was the expression of and way to being in deepest relationship with God. It was considered wise. Following it meant that a person was in tune with God – ‘walking with God’. Living the Law meant that lives would have order, meaning, be integrated, and that ALL would unite for the best purpose and in the best way possible. So… says God in the Word: “You shall not add to what I command you or subtract from it.” But over time, many things were written to interpret and/or apply the law. The trouble was that for many, these things became as important as the law itself. Living these interpretations became a way to appear important before others. Jesus brings the whole discussion back to those Jewish Scriptures. It’s what’s in the heart that really matters. Nothing that comes from ‘without’ makes a person unclean. No! It is what comes from the deep recesses of the heart: evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly. St. Augustine once said: “Love. Then do what you will.” For him, that was enough. If we truly LOVE God, self and other – truly – it is hard to imagine that we will go wrong. The little list mentioned only a few lines ago are the things that block love, distract love, center upon self in its least noble form. But the distortion of sin and corruption are at least checked by the great gift we have been given.
Baptism - it invites us into waters of ‘rebirth’ and we ‘put on a new self’ and we become ‘disciples of the Lord’. In this we have new life. In this, we have an alternative to sin. In this, we ‘follow’ and ‘proclaim an other’ – the Lord. The outer life which the law is meant to direct comes into harmony and resonates with the inner spirit of love which gives life – which IS life!

22o Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario ~ Tenemos muchas expresiones como esta: "Lo que hay por dentro es lo que realmente cuenta", y "No debes juzgar el libro por el forro." Básicamente ambas dicen lo mismo.
Lo
que sale de lo más profundo de un ser humano o de algo es lo es más real e importante. En las Escrituras Judías la ley era sagrada. Era la expresión y forma de estar de una manera más profunda en relación con Dios. Se le consideraba sabio. El seguir la ley significaba que una persona estaba en sintonía con Dios - "caminaba con Dios '. Vivir la Ley significaba que la vida tendría orden, sentido, sería íntegra, y que TODOS se unirían para el mejor propósito y de la mejor manera posible. Así que ...dice Dios en la Palabra: "No añadirán nada ni quitarán nada a lo que les mando” Pero con el tiempo, muchas cosas fueron escritas para interpretar o aplicar la ley. El problema era que, para muchos, estas cosas se volvieron tan importantes como la ley misma.
Vivir estas interpretaciones se convirtieron en una forma de darse importancia ante los demás. Jesús trae toda la discusión de nuevo a esas Escrituras Judías. Es lo que hay en el corazón lo que realmente importa. Nada que venga de ‘fuera’ hace a una persona sucia. ¡No! Es lo que viene de las profundidades del corazón: de los malos pensamientos, la falta de castidad, robo, asesinato, adulterio, la codicia, el engaño, el libertinaje, la envidia, la blasfemia, la arrogancia, la locura. San Agustín dijo una vez:
"Ama, luego haz lo que quieras”. Para él, eso era suficiente. Si realmente AMAMOS a Dios, a nosotros mismos, y a los demás, verdaderamente es difícil imaginar que vamos a acabar mal. La pequeña lista mencionada anteriormente son las cosas que bloquean el amor, que distraen el amor, se centran en el ‘yo’ en su forma menos noble. Pero la distorsión del pecado y la corrupción son, al menos, controlados por el gran regalo que se nos ha dado, el Bautismo, que nos invita a entrar en las aguas del
‘renacimiento’ y ‘revestirnos de un nuevo yo’ y nos convertimos en ‘discípulos del Señor’. En esto tenemos nueva vida. En esto, tenemos una alternativa al pecado. En esto, 'seguimos' y 'proclamamos a otro' — al Señor. La vida externa que la ley tiende a dirigir entra en armonía y resuena con el espíritu interior de amor que da la vida - que ES vida!

Sunday donation envelopes for the months of October, November & December of 2015, will NOT be mailed to your home. These envelopes will be available for pick-after all the Masses on the weekends of September 12 & 13, and September 26 & 27. The reason for this change is twofold. This will reduce the cost of postage in mailing envelopes. The church currently mails out 440 envelopes every week for active envelope users.
On average, there are 100 envelopes users per week.
Secondly this will provide the opportunity for any updates on your assigned envelope number such as change of address or name updates. We will retain the unclaimed envelopes in the rectory for your convenience.
