LITURGY OF THE DAY The point of this parable is not sharing, but rather preparedness. We participate in Sun-day Mass, pray, act rightly, make sacrifices, and even study our faith, often seemingly with little “result.” Yet, in all this, we are storing oil for our lamp (our baptismal candle). These spiritual practices prepare us to see and recognize the Bridegroom and the Reign of God that unexpectedly comes upon us both in this life and the next.

El punto de esta parábola no es el compartir, sino el estar prepa-rados. Participamos en la Santa Misa, oramos, obramos bien, hacemos sacrificios, y estudiamos nuestra fe, pero a veces con pocos “resultados.” Aun así, en esto, estamos guardando aceite para nuestra lampara (nuestra vela bautismal). Éstas practicas religiosas nos preparan para ver y reconocer al Novio y al Reino de Dios que viene inesperadamente en ésta vida y la otra.

We consider wisdom today. The first reading from the book of Wisdom presents this precious gift as a feminine spirit, a very desirable virtue sought by many and gracious-ly present to all who seek her. In today's Gospel, Jesus tells a parable to illustrate wisdom in a practical, measurable way. The wise will conserve their resources, use them pru-dently, and mark the passing of time. The foolish, on the other hand, not planning ahead, will be in the dark. Both of these readings tell us how accessible wisdom is to all who simply and honestly seek it. Copyright © J. S. Nuestra tema de hoy es la sabiduría. La primera lectura del Libro de la Sabiduría presenta este valioso regalo como un espíritu femenino, una virtud muy deseable buscada por muchos y posible, por la gracia de Dios, para todos los que la buscan. En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús relata una parábo-la para ilustrar de una manera práctica y concreta qué es parábo-la sabiduría. Los sabios conservan sus recursos, los usan pru-dentemente, con atención al paso del tiempo. Los tontos, por otro lado, por no planear su futuro, quedarán en la os-curidad.
