FROM THE PASTOR…

Dear Parishioners,

On this final weekend of Advent, I encourage you to enter prayerfully into the Christmas mystery.

Our Christmas schedule is in this bulletin, and well as in the current issue of the Woodside

Herald. Clip it out and post it at home as a reminder. Maybe take an extra bulletin after Mass today

and invite a non-practicing Catholic you know to ―come home for Christmas‖.

This Monday is Reconciliation Monday for all Catholic Churches in the NYC metropolitan area. Here at St. Raphael’s, confession is available from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the rectory office. An appropriate was to ―prepare the way of the Lord‖.

Our Hipsanic/Latino parishioners are involved these days in their ―posadas‖ celebration. The word means ―shelter‖ or ―lodging‖. For nine days prior to Christmas (representing the nine months of Mary’s pregnancy), the participants (and especially children) dress up, sing songs, and go in procession to a particular home designated as the ―inn‖ for that night. There the host wel-comes them for a gathering involving music, dancing, food and prayer. It’s a beautiful tradition, spearheaded by our Pastoral Ministers.

This week the Christmas flowers and plants will be arriving and we need an assist to put them in place. Please join us to decorate the church for Christmas on this Friday, December 23rd, at 5:30 pm. If you’ve never taken part, just show up and we’ll show you what needs to be done.

If you are going to the 5:00 pm Christmas Eve Mass in English, please arrive by 4:15 for the pre-Mass carols program our choir and music ministry have prepared for you. It will orient you to-wards the ―reason for the season‖.

Because the special collection at Christmas Masses is a diocesan one for Catholic Chari-ties, I ask you to remember our parish with a special Christmas offering this weekend or next. St. Raphael’s, like all churches, really relies on this extra show of generosity in this season. A Christ-mas Offering of $100 per family is kindly requested. Use the envelope marked ―ChristChrist-mas Offer-ing‖. Thank you for this timely support.

Also: in the spirit of the month, but already past, we had a wonderful celebration honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe last Saturday evening. The Mass was very well attended (with all the main language groups of the parish represented); the food afterwards tasty and plentiful; and the folk-loric program so professional. Thanks to coordinators Rosalba and Felix Perez and family —and

all their collaborators—for a job well done.

PUTTING THE FLOWERS, PLANTS, ETC. IN PLACE.

Just come by and we’ll show you how to help!

THIS FRIDAY, DEC. 23rd, 5:30 pm, IN CHURCH

Recent participants in our PRAY FOR

VOCATIONS project: to the left, Katherine

and Brenda Sarmiento, and, to the right, Andy and Lesley Cruz.

If you would like to participate, by tak-ing home the Blessed Mother statue and chal-ice for a week as a reminder to pray, as a family, for more people to respond to Jersus’ call to become priests or sisters, deacons or brothers, speak to Angelina, Inés, Margarita or Carmen after one of the Sunday Masses. 1. Because the Monday following Christmas

2. After Dec. 22nd, our Food Pantry will be closed for Dec. 24th, Dec. 29th and Dec. 31st and will re-open on Thurs., Jan. 5, 2017. 3. There are no Faith Formation (CCD) classes

on Dec. 25th and Jan. 1st.
