What’s the Difference?
What’s the difference between a mineral and a rock? Minerals are individual inorganic elements with crystalline structures. This basically means that they are not alive and occur naturally in the earth. Rocks are made up of many different minerals. If you think of a rock as a chocolate cookie, then think of the flour, sugar, butter, and chocolate chips as the minerals that make up the rock cookie. A crystal is a term for a mineral that has a crystalline structure. Patterns of atoms make crystals geometric and shiny.
