Gospel: Luke 3, 1-6
In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea,
and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee,
and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis,
and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene,
during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the desert.
John went throughout the whole region of the Jor- dan,
proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the for- giveness of sins,
as it is written in the book of the words of the proph- et Isaiah:
A voice of one crying out in the desert:
“Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.
Every valley shall be filled
and every mountain and hill shall be made low.
The winding roads shall be made straight, and the rough ways made smooth,
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”
Reflection
In today's Gospel, Jesus praises a poor widow who knows how to share. The image presented to us by this account does not seem to be so foreign to our reality; on many occasions we see gestures that enjoy the applause of many that move in favor of different causes and people. However, Jesus' gaze goes further and highlights a simple but radical donation from those who are not seeking any honors or prestige;
Jesus has eyes for both cases, but his tenderness and recognition stand on the solidarity of the poor wid- ow, who is able to compromise his own livelihood with that which he gives; the anonymous widow rep- resents the true spirituality of Jesus' followers. He donates himself, in a total surrender in the hands of God, putting in him all his trust, not in wealth or power. He has no knowledge of the law like the scribes, but he practices the law of love.
From the gesture that Jesus highlights, among other things, we are called to think about what should move us to share, to give.
Reflexion
Evangelio: Lucas 3, 1-6
En el año décimo quinto del reinado del César Tibe- rio, siendo Poncio Pilato procurador de Judea;
toda montaña y colina, rebajada;
