Dear Families:

This Sunday brings us a special message. It has to do with following Jesus; to follow Him is to be brave.

The human being is made for life and crea vity. There is, in man, an infinite capacity for love and life. He came out of the hand and heart of Him who is Life, and is called to return to Him.

Jesus always invites us to set our feet on that path of righteousness, and to go farther than we ever thought we could. Rou ne, fear and selfishness are an -evangelical a tudes that prevent us from listening to, and accep ng Jesus' invita on to follow Him into the future, with an a tude that is prudent and realist, but, at the same me, brave and willing to take risks.

We have a good example in today's Gospel: To some that are invited to follow Jesus, he offers total material insecurity;

"...the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head...". Of others that hear his call, he demands that they leave the emo onal and material security of the family behind. To s ll others, he demands that they not look back, before stepping out into the path of the Kingdom of God, staunching any nostalgia for the past.

St. Augus ne was an intelligent man of the world, who had experienced many of the pleasures it had to offer. Materially speaking, he lacked nothing. But his heart felt empty, un l he found God. He surrendered himself to God, leaving behind his riches, along with the meaningless rou ne that had le him so empty, inside. We hear his thirst for the infinite, when he says: "Lord, our hearts are restless un l they rest in you...". St.

Augus ne gives us the key to interpret this Sunday’s Gospel. We Chris ans have to be men and women of the future, while we live the present.

For this we have to be courageous in fulfilling our commitment to family and society, through our faith in God. Accep ng weakness in our faith, as we live in the present, puts our future in jeopardy. If we fail to follow Christ in full faith, we miss out on the opportuni es that God has reserved for us, each day, without knowing it. Let us take the step of surrendering to Jesus.

May God bless you.
