Howdy,
Saturday morning our new Parochial Vicar (Associate Pastor) Father Christopher Gossen was ordained to the priesthood.
Unfortunately I could not attend since I am in Mexico with some of our 8th grade grad- uates. What is important to know is that Bishop Olmsted has assigned Father Gossen to OLPH.
Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glendale has been the first home for many newly or- dained priests in our diocese. Not just Bishop Olmsted, but other bishops as well have understood what a great parish this is for a new priest. This is because of your great love for your priests, yes, and your patience.
I know that you will show that great love both to your new pastor and to Father Gossen. Remember, you are helping to train the priests of our diocese and one may one day be your new pastor.

El sábado por la mañana, nuestro nuevo Vicario Parroquial, el Padre Christopher Gossen fue ordenado sacerdote. Lamenta- blemente no pude asistir ya que estoy en México con algunos de nuestros graduados de 8º curso. Lo que es importante saber es que el Obispo Olmsted ha asignado al Pa- dre Gossen a nuestra parroquia OLPH.
Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro en Glendale ha sido el primer hogar para mu- chos sacerdotes recién ordenados en nues- tra diócesis. No solo el Obispo Olmsted, sino que otros obispos también han entendi- do que esta es una gran parroquia para un nuevo sacerdote. Esto se debe al gran amor de ustedes por sus sacerdotes, sí, y por su paciencia.
Sé que mostrarán ese gran amor tanto a su nuevo pastor como al Padre Gossen. Re- cuerden, ustedes está ayudando a capacitar a los sacerdotes de nuestra diócesis y algún día puede ser su nuevo pastor.

OLPH Preschool has been blessed with receiving a grant from Quality First to be used for tuition assistance. There is limited space available in the preschool program so be sure to register right away. Applications for the Quality First grant assistance will be available mid-July. If you are interested in giving your child a quality faith-based preschool experience, please contact the school office at 623-931-7287 or stop by the office as soon as possible.

Totus Tuus (Latin for “totally yours) was inspired by Pope St. John Paul II who sought to bring people closer to Christ through devotion to His Blessed Mother. The program is authentically Catholic-with time spent attending daily Mass, praying the Rosary, and learning about the Faith- and authentically fun, with games, skits, songs, sports and even a water fight for children on the last day.
The program is run by college-aged missionaries and seminarians who embody the joy and life of Gospel and who have radically given their summer to the Lord. We will also need volunteers to bring food for the missionaries daily for lunch and din- ner.

La oración de Jesús en el capítulo 17 de Juan no es solo para sus discípulos, sino para todos los creyentes alrede- dor del mundo. Jesús no es exclusivo de unos cuantos, es para todos. Lo afirma en la lectura del Evangelio de hoy:
" Padre, no sólo te pido por mis discípulos, sino también por los que van a creer en mí por la palabra de ellos, pa- ra que todos sean uno, como tú, Padre, en mí y yo en ti somos uno, a fin de que sean uno en nosotros y el mundo crea que tú me has enviado." (Juan 17:20-21). La fe de los creyentes en esta unidad en Cristo es grande; Se ve en las personas que salen de sus países en caravanas hacia Eu- ropa y los Estados Unidos. Peligran y sufren en las trave- sías, pero, al preguntarles como van, cual es su esperan- za, ellos dicen frases como: "Dios está con nosotros, "
Dios nunca nos falla" o, " Mi confianza siempre es Dios y la Virgen María".
Eso dicen ellos; ¿Qué dices tú? ¿Crees realmente que somos uno en Cristo? Cada respuesta es personal y debe venir desde el corazón. No se vale responder a medias.
Jesús espera compromiso de cada bautizado, de cada cristiano. Es nuestro trabajo transformar el mundo sin- tiendo como el otro, poniéndonos en los zapatos de la otra persona. No olvidemos que somos un pueblo en tra- vesía; todos vamos hacia el mismo punto con la misma meta que es la eternidad. ¿Lo crees así? Pidamos al Se- ñor en está Eucaristía que nos prepare a recibir al Espi- rita Santo y abra el entendimiento y el corazón de cada uno para ser uno en Dios.
What is the most common image you've seen of the Ascension?
It's typically Jesus hovering above the earth surrounded by bril- liant light. The Ascension is a beautiful feast, but it's about more than the distant glory of God. It's about the blessing of God and the transformative power of trust.
"You are witnesses to these things." Before he ascends, Jesus reminds the disciples of the basic message of the Gospel and of the disciples' own important role. They are to proclaim the Gospel message by their personal witness to the saving power of God. "I am sending the promise of my Father upon you...clothed with power from on high." Jesus promises to equip the disciples for this important mission. Not only are they receiving a command, but they're receiving the empowerment they need to move. "He...raised his hands, and blessed them."
Even now, though the fulfillment of Pentecost is still to come, Jesus gives them a parting gift before he ascends into heaven.
Finally, "They...returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and they were continually in the temple praising God."
The disciples faced an unknown future. Their teacher had left them, and the political and religious authorities weren't exactly thrilled about Jesus and his growing movement. But the memory of our Father's redemptive love, the promise of the Holy Spirit, and the blessing of Christ sustained them. Jesus trusted them to act in his name. They could trust him in return.
Do you face uncertainty in your own life? Remember, we are all called to be disciples and witnesses. We have received the indwelling of the Holy Spirit at our baptism. We are blessed by Christ beyond imagining in the sacraments. This Ascension feast, we too can trust in God! With this firm trust, we too can return to our daily lives, praising God with great joy

LA FAMILIA Y LA FE
En cada Misa Dominical profesamos nuestra fe recitando el Credo de Nicea. Hoy nuestra celebración de la Ascensión se centra en estas palabras: " Él ascendió al cielo y está sentado a la diestra del Padre".
Justo antes de ascender al Cielo, Jesús prometió enviarnos el Espíritu Santo.
Tanto el Credo de Nicea como la Misa nos enseñan que la presencia dinámica del Espíritu Santo hace posible que Jesús permanezca con nosotros.
¡El sacerdote invoca al mismo Espíritu Santo que cubre con su sombra a María cuando Jesús es concebido en su vientre para opacar los elementos del pan y el vino en cada misa y hacer que Jesús esté presente para nosotros!
¡Esta es una verdad asombrosa que debería hacer que nuestros corazones canten de alegría! ¡Sin embargo, imaginamos que la Misa es aburrida!
¡Oh Dios, danos ojos para ver y oídos para escuchar la verdad sobre la Misa!
“Mantengámonos firmes en nuestra profesión que nos da esperanza, porque el que hizo la promesa es digno de confianza.” Hebreos 10:22 y 23.

reciting the Nicene Creed. Today our celebration of the Ascension focuses on these words: “he ascend- ed into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.”
Just before he ascended into Heaven, Jesus prom- ised to send us the Holy Spirit.
Both the Nicene Creed and the Mass teach us that the Holy Spirit’s dynamic presence makes it possi- ble for Jesus to remain with us.
The same Holy Spirit that overshadows Mary when Jesus is conceived in her womb is called down by the priest to overshadow the elements of bread and wine at each Mass and make Jesus present for us!
This is a most amazing truth that ought to be make our hearts sing for joy! Yet, we imagine Mass is boring!
Oh God, give us eyes to see and ears to hear the truth about the Mass!
Let us hold unwaveringly to our confession that gives us hope, for he who made the promise is trust- worthy.” Heb 10:22 & 23
